Girls Soccer Gets No. 1 Seed in County Tourney

The team is the three-time defending champs, and have reached the county final every year since 2005.

The Scotch-Plains Fanwood High School girls varsity soccer team was voted as the first seed in the Union County Tournament at a Tuesday meeting, several sources reported.

The girls varsity team has seen the UCT final every year since 2005, and has won or tied every year except for a 2009 loss to Cranford.

The 2012 team shared the title of county co-champion with Westfield after a 1-1 tie in the tournament final. The girls held a record of 18-2-3.

The 2013 team is currently ranked No. 19 in the state in the Star-Ledger's Top 20 rankings.

The tournament begins Saturday, but the Raiders have a bye until the quarterfinals on Oct. 12. Other seeded teams were Cranford (2), Westfield (3) and Gov. Livingston (4).
