SP-F Senior Qualifies for YMCA National Championship
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnastic league kicked off its season Saturday in Madison.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood High senior Gina Pelosi is in the running to compete at the YMCA National Championships after a strong performance at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnastic league's meet against Madison on Saturday.
Gina Pelosi, Hannah Kronick and Samantha Mazzucco all competed at Level 9, vying for qualifying scores to compete at the YMCA National Championship meet in the Championship Division. Pelosi handily earned her qualifying score, while Kronick and Mazzucco narrowly missed this round by less than a half of a point.
The Level 8 gymnasts competed in two age groups. In the 14 and under age group, Kacie Bumiller earned the top honors All Around. Bumiller also earned 2nd place on Uneven Bars and Balance Beam and 4th place on Vault and Floor Exercise. Second place All Around went to Lauren Lockfeld. Lockfeld also received 2nd place on Floor Exercise and 4th place on the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam. Zoe-Nicole Stein earned 4th place All Around, supported by her 1st place honors on the Uneven Bars and 3rd place on Vault. Marissa DiBella earned 3rd place for her Uneven Bar routine.

The 15 and over competitors also earned many awards. Lisa Matrale's 2nd place All Around performance was supported by her 1st place ribbons on both Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise and 3rd place on Vault. Kaitlyn Frey earned 3rd place All Around and 4thplace on Vault. Kelsey Herbig captured 5th place All Around and 3rd place on the Uneven Bars.
The B Division competitors also competed in two age groups. In the 12 and under age group, Danielle Scheu captured 2nd place All Around. Scheu also earned 1st place on the Uneven Bars and 2nd place on both Vault and Balance Beam. Cara Provenzano received 3rd place All Around in her first B Division meet. Provenzano also received 2nd place on the Uneven Bars, 3rd place on Floor Exercise and 4th place on Vault. Paige VanBuskirk placed 2nd on Floor Exercise, as well as 3rd on Vault and 4th on Balance Beam. Alyssa Gardner's performances captured her 3rd place on Balance Beam and 4th place on both Vault and Floor Exercise in her first B Division meet.

First place All Around in the 13 and over age group went to Abigail Fontana. Fontana had an exceptional meet, earning 1st place on Vault, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Heather Mullen received 3rd place All Around, backed up by her 2nd place routine on the Uneven Bars and 3rd place on Floor Exercise. Michelle Rogoff took 2nd place on Balance Beam, 3rd place on Vault and Uneven Bars and 4th place on Floor Exercise. Meghan Yessman captured 1st place on Uneven Bars and 2nd place on Vault. Joelle Pisauro took home 3rd place on the Uneven Bars and 4th place on Vault. Having stuck her balance beam routine, Rachel Butler was proud to be awarded 1st place on that event.
