SP-F Youth Baseball Commences Spring Season

The little leaguers met up Saturday morning for opening ceremonies.

Saturday morning was bitterly cold for spring, but dozens of local little leaguers braved the wind and chill anyways to celebrate the start of their spring baseball season.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Youth Baseball Association held its opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. Saturday at Booth Field in Scotch Plains. The children, joined by their parents, friends, and local leaders and supporters of the league, all gathered around the field to recognize those who had excelled in the past season and wish luck to everyone for the one ahead.

"I want you all to remember this: have fun," SP-F High baseball coach Tom Baylock advised the children. Baylock also serves as a little league coach this season.

Freeholder Al Mirabella, Scotch Plains Mayor Nancy Malool, and Fanwood Councilman Mike Szuch were also in attendance to show their support.

Malool and Szuch both warmed up their arms to throw the first pitches of the season.

The SP-F Youth Baseball Association is made up of 26 teams this spring, including children ranging in age from 6 to 15.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch wishes all the little ones an excellent season, but we're especially rooting for our own sponsored junior tee ball team.
