The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League’s season got underway Sunday with a triple header of hoops action.
Week one consisted of three games:
In game one, Fast Break 53 and Court Masters 23. Court Masters started strong but were out-rebounded by Fast Break and could never establish offensive flow. Fast Break controlled the boards with 40 rebounds. Jason Holley led Fast Break with 15 points and his team showed balance with three players, Jerry Baglien, Tim Gray and Steve Lee all scoring in double digits. Court Masters rookie, Joseph Encarnacion posted 8 points in his League debut.
Game two ended with Got Skillz 42 and Above the Rim 41. The tightest game of the day was won at the free throw line as Got Skillz held off Above the Rim for a one-point win. Jason Shann tallied 14 points in the winning effort. Above the Rim’s Jamal Berry led all scorers with 23 but it wasn’t enough.
Game three closed with Double Dribble 57 and Hoop Town 51. Three pointers capped off the triple header as treys rained down in the day’s final game. Double Dribble’ Marlon Brown racked up 17 points supported by Chris Mattina’s four three pointers. Hoop Town won the second half on the strength of Brian Parker’s 23 points but Double Dribble combined patience and ball control for the win.
