Threepeat for IHM Basketball

The church's sixth-grade girls basketball team secures its third straight championship, improving its career record to 65-3.

The sixth-grade girls basketball team captured their third straight Garden State League Championship on March 22, beating arch-rival Westfield 23-20.

Since the team was formed three years ago, it has compiled a record of 65-3.

Its roster, meanwhile, consists entirely of athletes from Scotch Plains and Fanwood, who showed enthusiasm, leadership and hustle throughout the season: point guard, Christina Rogers; center Kyra Lockart, who led the team in scoring and rebounds; forward Sophie Brause; guard Alex Scuriati, the team's only fifth-grader and the leading scorer in the championship game; Summer Sheppard; Brooke Depaul, who racked-up the second-most rebounds on the team; defenseman Cori Bernstein; Julia Bonnacorso; defenseman Allie Aloe; and newcomer Lexi Brunetto.

The team was led by head coach Steve Sheppard and assistant coach Kathryn Decataldo.
