Y Swim Team Going Strong in National Finals

The team is currently 13th overall.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA swim team is once again making an impact at the annual Y Nationals, which are being held this week at the University of Maryland in College Park.

The Piranhas team is currently 13th overall in the team standings. Eight of its swimmers will return tonight to compete in the finals.

Dan Naplitano will be in the 200 butterfly final, Hannah Markey will be in the 100 breaststroke and Zach Peart in the 50 backstroke. Naplitano will also swim the butterfly leg and Peart the backstroke along, with Greg Baliko (breaststroke) and Will Brown (in the boys medley relay). Jess Cronin (back), Markey (breast), Gabby Levine (butterfly) and Ariana Lyons (freestyle) will be in the girl medley relay finals. Markey, Lyons and Jess and Nicole Colucci will be the foursome in the 200 freestyle final.

According to Head Coach Chris Feinthel, the team has a chance to place as high as 11th place.
