Birthdays and Classroom Visits

Recently, our Pre-K and Kindergarten students celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday by reading The Cat in the Hat and then making a cat out of paper plates and paint. The first graders celebrated  by turning a story, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, into a science lesson by making Gak, the strange substance from the book.  They also feasted on a breakfast of green eggs and ham cooked by their teacher, Mrs. Diane Schweitzer, and a few classroom parents.  As you pass by the first floor hallway, we hope you enjoy all of the students’ work as they celebrated this wonderful children’s author!

Father David Santos, our school Chaplin, has been warmly received by our students as he visits our classrooms and presides at First Friday Mass.  Father David has made time to visit the children during their indoor recess and recently spent time talking with the students in 3rd grade about his military service.  He also spoke to the First and Sixth graders about the meaning of Ash Wednesday, almsgiving, and prayer.  At our most recent First Friday Mass he taught the children about the changes in church during Lent and impressed upon them that they didn’t need to give up something for Lent, they could do something for others instead.  The students also appreciate the time Fr. David has taken to attend home basketball games and cheer on our teams. They are always excited to see him on the sidelines.
