Students Participate In 'The Square Life' At St. Bartholomew Academy

Mrs. Lynda England’s fifth graders are currently participating in The Square of Life: Studies in Local and Global Environments, an internet-based collaborative project in which students investigate their local environment and share that information with other students from around the country and the world.

Working in small groups our students studied the environment around the Convent by making a list and taking photos of all the living and nonliving things in a square meter of ground.

Each collaborative group of students is making a PowerPoint presentation comparing and contrasting what was found at St. Bartholomew’s with another school group participating in the project.

These presentations will be posted on the Square of Life website. One of the Academy’s many academic goals is to provide the opportunity for our students to participate in these technology-rich, cross-curricular projects which allow our students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations while fostering skills such as communication, problem solving, relationships, curiosity, and tolerance for others.

Mrs. Patricia Delaney’s second grade students have, once again, embarked on a fun Academy tradition - the Flat Stanley project.  Flat Stanley is an engaging project that requires the students to read the beloved book, Flat Stanley, and then create “Stanleys” of their own to send to friends and relatives outside of New Jersey.

Flat Stanley has visited all over the Untied States, Europe and South America.  Mrs. Delaney uses the Flat Stanley story and project to teach about different cultures, geography, history, and tolerance.  The students also work on their computer and communication skills by preparing a PowerPoint presentation about their Flat Stanley to share with the class.  The projects will be displayed in the First Floor hallway.

Be sure to check out where Flat Stanley went this year!
