Memorial Day celebrations in SPF begin with laying of the wreathes each town memorial - first at the Fanwood Memorial Library at 9 a.m. followed by a second wreath service at  Veterans Monument at Park Avenue and Front Street in Scotch Plains at 10:00 AM. , led by Ms. Jan Allen, will perform their renditions of The National Anthem and God Bless America during that ceremony.

The Memorial Day Parade will begin outside of the Scotch Plains Municipal Building on Park Avenue at 10:45 a.m. and travel down Martine Avenue, ending at in Fanwood. Vietnam Veteran and Interim SP Township Manager, Bob LaCosta will serve as the grand marshall for the parade.

Vinnie and Nick Losavio of will offer their charasmatic services as co-announcers of the parade. Fanwood commentaries will be provided by Donna Dolce and Dale Flowers. Under the direction of Durand Thomas, the Marching Band will lead the march.

Following the high school band are representatives from local organizations including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, YMCA activities, youth athletic organizations, several other bands, including SPFHS Rhythm Sense, and a wide variety of civic groups. Vendors will also be present along the parade route to sell American flags and a variety of patriotic trinkets and toys.

"The parade is an exciting event, especially for the younger spectators and participants," Phil Gans of the SPF Memorial Day Committee said. "On this special day, take some time to remember those men and women who died in service to America to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy today."
