Photo Brief: Councils Honor Girl Scouts

Scotch Plains and Fanwood recognize two local troops.

Maybe they did it for the cookies, but Scotch Plains and Fanwood's mayors and councils honored the Girl Scouts at their respective meetings March 15 and March 8. Mayors Nancy Malool and Colleen Mahr lauded the members of two Scotch Plains-Fanwood troops for their community service, and invited them to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of each town's meeting.

In addition, the Girl Scouts were one of Scotch Plains' "Volunteer Organizations of the Year" in 2010, sharing the title with the Boy Scouts. At the mayor and council's meeting Tuesday, Malool presented one of the troop leaders a check for more than $800 – a product of donations to the annual Mayor's Gala in December, where the scouts were honored for their award.
