Resources for Residents Without Power

Local organizations offer cooking spaces, charging stations and wi-fi.

There is no shortage of community organizations offering their services to storm-struck residents in Scotch Plains and Fanwood. For residents whose homes still have no power, the following groups have offered to help:

The /, located on Martine Avenue and Marian Avenue, has opened its kitchen for residents to cook and refrigerate food. Locals can also charge their electronic devices. The facility is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Residents are asked to enter through the Thrift Shop entrance.

The on Terrill Road is offering free wi-fi, charging stations and coffee in its large gym. Tables and chairs are set up and you can make yourself at home. The gym will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on an as-needed basis.

“The idea is going over well since starting up on Monday,” executive director Mike Epp said. “One gentleman was driving by to see if he could get to his office when he saw the sign. He stopped in and right away began his workday here in the gym.”

The on Martine Avenue is offering Scotch Plains, Fanwood and Clark residents free coffee and the use of the facility’s showers. For available hours, contact the YMCA by calling 908-889-8880.

The , located at 123 Watson Road, will be open to the public on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. for anyone who needs charge a device, access the internet, temporarily store food in the building's refrigerator or use the kitchen's stove, according to Capt. Tom Kranz.
