Scotch Plains Father-Daughter Running to Fight Crohn's, Colitis

Randy and Amelia Brause will run a half marathon in Chicago this weekend to raise funds and awareness.

Scotch Plains father-daughter duo Randy and Amelia Brause will run a half marathon in Chicago on Saturday to raise funds for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

Amelia, a 2010 Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School grad, was diagnosed with Crohn's when she was 9 years old, according to a report in the Suburban News.

Crohn’s disease causes chronic inflammation of the entire gastrointestinal tract and cannot be cured.

"This year we run with renewed hope," writes Randy on their donation webpage. "Amelia had surgery in November and can wake up without pain for the first time in many years. While we run for each other, we also run for those of all ages who are afflicted with this disease."

Amelia was also profiled in a story about Crohn's at the student newspaper of the University of Pittsburgh, where she is a junior and is majoring in neuroscience.
