9/11 Memorial, Consolidation Commission Meeting, Newmark School Opens This Week

What's happening in Scotch Plains and Fanwood this week? 

9/11 memorial: On Wednesday, Scotch Plains will commemorate the 12th anniversary of Sept. 11 with a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the Scotch Plains 9/11 Memorial Monument on the Alan M. Augustine Village Green on Park Avenue.  The memorial will honor three residents—Matthew Horning, James Walsh and Mark Rothenberg—who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.

Consolidation commission meets: The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Consolidation Commmission will meet on Wednesday night at the Board of Education building at 7 p.m. Read about the commission's last meeting in their Patch blog.

Newmark School opens: The faculty, parents and capital campaign committee of the Newmark School proudly announce the grand opening of Newmark Education, a new-state-of-the-art educational facility serving the special needs community in New Jersey.  The new home for the Newmark K-8 School, Newmark High School and the Teacher Training Institute is 1000 Cellar Avenue in Scotch Plains. A ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday.

Paws for Reading at the SP Library: Tonight the library welcomes dogs and their human volunteers from St. Hubert’s at 7 p.m. The dogs love having stories read to them, and readers in kindergarten and above are invited to come and take a turn. Advance registration is required. Five minute time slots will be assigned to all participants. Priority will be given to Scotch Plains and Fanwood library cardholders.
