Interview Prep at the Library, JFK Bagpipe Tribute, Hanukkah Events This Week

What's happening this week in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.

Prepare for your next interview: The Scotch Plains Library hosts interview 
expert Alex Freund on Monday at 6:30 p.m. to do mock interviews and experience the four elements the interviewer is targeting. 

Battle your kids' tech addiction: The Newmark School presents “Tech Addiction: It’s Impacting Your Child” by John Kriger, a parent resource seminar on connecting and disconnecting. Free and open to the public, but please register in advance. Wednesday, 6:45 – 8:30 p.m.

Hanukkah story and craft hour at Be Craftful: Join Be Craftful for a magical and interactive hour of Hanukkah stories and crafts. For children of all ages. No charge. Tuesday, 4 p.m.

Hanukkah party at Congregation Beth Israel: Congregation Beth Israel in will host a Hanukkah party on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the community. Co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Israel’s Sisterhood and Men’s Club, the Hanukkah party will feature musical entertainment, a magic show, food and games for the whole family.

Bagpipe tribute for JFK at the Scotch Plains Library: Jim Tansey, of the Essex County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums and Grand Marshal of the 2013 Union County St. Patrick's Day parade, will play Irish tunes, including JFK's favorite, "The Boys of Wexford," to mark the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination. Saturday, 1 p.m.

"Hitchcock" at the Scotch Plains Library: The third in a series of "New Movies You May Have Missed," to be shown at the library. Bring a snack and enjoy the show. PG-13, 98 minutes. Friday, 1 p.m.

GWACC networking event at Rosie's: The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce (of which Scotch Plains is a member) will hold a networking happy hour at Rosie's Wine Bar on Tuesday. Open to all current and prospective members. Come gather with business professionals from the surrounding towns and enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres. Cash bar. Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Prep for Thanksgiving at the Westfield Farmers Market: The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host a special Thanksgiving Farmers Market at the Westfield train station. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donate gently used coats at Congregation Beth Israel: On Sunday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. a drive-through will be set up and volunteers from Congregation Beth Israel will be on-hand to collect coats directly from donors’ cars. The coat drive will benefit Jersey Cares, a non-profit, community-based organization that mobilizes the collection and distribution of thousands of winter coats to men, women and children in need.  

Westfield Weavers holiday sale at the SP Rescue Squad: Handwoven table linens, scarves, shawls, hand knit baby sweaters, socks, and other wearables, pottery, baskets, and unique handmade gifts. Saturday, 10 a.m.

Scotch Plains Pain & Rehab gives away free care: On Saturday, Dr. Eric Chludzinski and his staff will trade a day’s worth of care for a donation of non-perishable food to be donated to the local food bank. During the event, the office will give away patient consultations, exams and treatments as well as refreshments, chair massages, door prizes and other gifts. Appointments required.
