Santa Comes to Fanwood, JFK & Vietnam Talk at Scotch Plains Library This Week

JFK & Vietnam talk at the Scotch Plains Library: 
Colonel Paul Miles, US Army (retired), taught military and diplomatic history at Princeton U. from 1999-2013, and served in Vietnam. He will speak about The New Frontier in Vietnam: John F. Kennedy's Policy and Strategy. Reservations recommended. Monday, 7 p.m.

Dan Gets a Minivan 
author at JCC: Come laugh with Dan Zevin who has led his readers through each phase of life to his current minivan situation. Zevin’s latest book has been optioned by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions along with his previous book The Day I Turned Uncool. Monday, 7:30 p.m.

GWACC networking breakfast: The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce (of which Scotch Plains and Fanwood are members) will host a networking breakfast at Blue Sky Cafe in WestfieldThursday, 8 a.m. 

SPF Art Association to host bus trip to Frick Collection: The Scotch Plains Fanwood Arts Association is hosting a trip to The Frick Collection in Manhattan this December to view the Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Hals Masterpieces of Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis exhibit. Vermeer’s The Girl With the Pearl Earing is one of 15 paintings in the exhibit of Dutch masterpieces from the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis. Thursday, 9 a.m.

Shabbat Shalom Club at Congregation Beth Israel: Friday night family service for children ages 2-6 with their families. Led by Rabbi Nudell and Cantor Axelrod, age appropriate prayers, songs and stories, pecial Kiddish complete with grade juice, challah and matzo ball soup. For information please call 908-889-1830. No reservation required - free and open to the public. Friday, 6:30 p.m.
Bugsy Malone Jr. at St. Bart's: A hilarious tale of bumbling bad guys, a smooth-talking, good-at-heart guy named Bugsy, and whipped cream slings, this musical send-up of Hollywood’s old gangster films is sure to be a hit with all ages. In lieu of admission, voluntary donations will be collected for the “Charity Starts at Home” fund which provides financial relief to families in Scotch Plains and surrounding areas. Friday, 7 p.m. and Saturday, 2:30 p.m.

TigerTutor grand opening: TigerTutor is happy to announce its newest office in Scotch Plains and will be kicking off its grand ppening with an Open House on Saturday. Come learn about upcoming SAT & ACT prep classes and College Counseling services provided by a guidance counselor with more than 25 years of experience working at top NJ high schools, including Mendham and Westfield. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Santa rides through Fanwood, delivering gifts: Beginning at 11 a.m, Kris Kringle and his elves will make their way through Fanwood with the assistance of the Fanwood Fire Department, Fanwood Rescue Squad and the Police PBA 123. Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
Meet one of the "Monuments Men" at Temple Sholom: Spend an night with Harry Ettlinger, one of  the Monuments Men, a team of men and women whose mission during World War II and its aftermath was to reclaim artwork the Nazis had looted. Sunday, 7 p.m.

Christmas worship, pageant, concert at Willow Grove Church: Enjoy Music Sunday and an intergenerational Christmas pageant, followed by a Celtic harp concert. Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
