Scotch Plains Holiday Celebration, Vendor Fair, Small Business Saturday This Weekend

What's happening in Scotch Plains and Fanwood this weekend.

Vendor fair at Scotch Hills Country Club: Mount Sinai Sunday School presents a vendor fair for all your holiday shopping needs. Shop during Small Business Saturday and support small businesses in the area. Admission is $5 at the door. Vendors include Mary Kay, 31 Gifts, Pampered Chef and more. Saturday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

Shop local during Small Business Saturday: Locally owned businesses across the country now take part in Small Business Saturday, offering their own deals to rival those offered the day before on Black Friday. In Scotch Plains and Fanwood, many businesses are participating in the effort, according to the American Express Small Business Saturday website. Entering your zip code into the site's search box will give you a list of AMEX-accepting SBS participants.

Black Saturday at the thrift shop: 
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Service League Thrift Shop, located at 1741 East Second Street in Scotch Plains, will be closed Thanksgiving week from November 26-29.  It reopens on Saturday, November 30, for its “Black Saturday” sales event.  Everything in the store will be offered at 50% off the ticketed price.

St. Bart's Christmas Creche unveiling: On Saturday, November 30 after the 5 p.m. mass, St. Bart's will celebrate the unveiling and lighting of its new life-size Christmas Creche. Sponsored by parishioners and their families, the fourteen life-size figures of the Creche which are hand painted and imported from Italy will sit on a platform that is 16 feet wide, 32 feet long, and 21 feet high. The celebration on Saturday will be led by Newark Archdiocese Auxiliary Bishop Manuel Cruz who will bless the Creche and light the scene for the very first time.  The St. Bartholomew Church choir will sing Christmas tidings, hot chocolate will be served, and children under the age of 12 will receive keepsakes to mark the occasion. All members of the community are invited.

Scotch Plains Holiday Celebration: The Scotch Plains Recreation Department and Scotch Plains Business & Professional Association host the annual holiday celebration on the Alan Augustine Village Green on Sunday. Festivities include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday songs sung by the Girl Scouts, hot chocolate, pastries – and a visit from Santa himself from 3 to 5 p.m. The lights on the Village Green will also be lit at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Hanukkah wonderland at the JCC: Hanukkah party for the entire family, features latkes & donuts, Chanukah crafts & activities, photo-op with Judah Maccabee, menorah lighting, music. Everyone is welcome. No membership or affiliation required. Suggested donation: $10/person $36/family. Sunday, 1 p.m.
