Visited Grillestone for the second time, first was ok so I decided to give it another try. Bad idea, first of all food comes out ice cold, a sure sign that they are not the scratch kitchen that there reviews clim to be. I had this fishermans fry app special. Whoever is running the kitchen has to get clued in, it was just awful, it was like the skimmings off the top of the fryer. I then proceeded to order the chicken florentine, another mistake, what an odd take on such a great dish. People you just can't slop stuff on a dish and call it what you think it is. Last time I was here there was a wait list, now on a sat nite almost deserted. What a shame such a nice place going down the tubes.

This was my family's first time here. Upon arrival, we were greeted by two lovely hostesses who asked us if would like to be seated in the main dining room or in the more quiet and subdued back room. I found this to be most thoughtful and accommodating and already i could sense we were in for an enjoyable meal. We were seated in the main dining room which we felt was fine acoustically, contrary to some reviews online (I do like to do my research on where to spend my hard earned money).
We were greeted by our server Rachel, a most delightful young woman. She explained to us in details the daily specials, two which caught the attention of my wife and i immediately. The pan seared scallops over seafood risotto and blackened swordfish served over a baked sweet potato cake. That made our ordering simple. The food was truly remarkable from presentation to the tiniest nuances in taste. You can tell that the food was hand-crafted by professionals. Needless to say we were very satisfied!
From the second we walked in the door until the second we left, we we're treated with courtesy and respect by hostesses, management and service team.
I would highly recommend this to establishment!!!
STAY AWAY!!!! FOOD IS VERY MUCH AVERAGE , THE STAFF IS BELOW AVERAGE, OH, AND DONT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENT AFTER USING YOUR CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD, THEY DON'T HESITATE TO OVER CHARGE YOU AND OF COURSE , THE MANAGER IS ALWAYS BUSY TO TAKE YOUR CALL. ! HEADS UP!! THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PLACES YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR DATE AND YOUR MONEY!
Went to Grillstone last Saturday for drinks with friends. Had a great time. Dj was playing great music and the crowd was classy and was a mixed range in age. Got appetizers that were amazing, especially the sliders. I danced for about 2 hours straight. My legs were sore the next day. All in all, my friends and I had a great time and will be attending next weekend
Great place!!! The food is priced right and is of exceptional quality. Definately the best place in the area to go if you're looking for great food and a lively atmosphere. The service was tremendous, a marked improvement from the last time I was there a few months ago. They finally have things working smoothly. Management was cordial and professional, making the dining experience a memorable one! The bar drink specials are second to none and there is always a special event planned. We had so much fun we stayed for the DJ after dinner!
Don't go on a weekend. It is too busy and not worth it. Maybe if you are just going to the bar for drinks it is ok. Place is too noisy when it is full and the staff are mostly high school kids who aren't really sure what they are doing. Try it on a weeknight and everyone is a lot calmer. Food is below average and you can spend you money better at other places.
Scotch Plains resident: I love this place, great salad, great steak. Staff is young yes, so some manager/owner needs to man up and more precisely train his staff. But I will wait a while and see if ownership notices and service becomes more professional.
Honestly the worst dining experience I've ever had. I had heard good things about the Grillstone and looking on their website it looked very nice. I made reservations 2 weeks in advance. On the website it said the attire was business casual and I was expecting an up-scale, quite restaurant with good food. It was very loud and the majority of guests were dressed in things like jean shorts, t-shirts and track suits. The service was absolutely horrible. We had to wait, even with reservations, we had to ask for everything, including plates, silverware, napkins, salt & pepper, drinks, butter, etc. We did not order appetizers and after an hour and a half our entrees finally came out, parts of them missing. Our steaks were over done to the point of being hard to eat. The only reason I even ate half of mine was I didn't want to wait another hour for another and I was starving by that point. I am so incredibly disappointed with this restaurant and will not return.
Gave this new eatery a chance to settle in and went for dinner last night. The dining room is spacious but noisy. Wait staff attentive but harried. Quite a change from the old Lone Star's but a total disappointment. Food was under cooked(salmon)and had to be sent back then waited forever for its return. Mashed potatoes were bland and tasteless. The Rib/Chicken combo was incredibly bland. I believe the ribs were boiled, the "sauce" was nowhere near a bar-b-que taste. Almost tasted like a tomato sauce with a bit of spice. Horrible. The Chicken totally bland and tasteless. The fries soggy and limp. Overall an over priced meal that I could rate less then diner quality. I just wonder who created the menu and was it ever tasted. Chef Ramsy get ready this place will be calling shortly! Save your money! Go elsewhere.
While a fairly new establishment, it is understandable that there are some growing pains to be associated with such, but don't waste your time unless you are with a group. My wife and I had a 6:45 p.m. reservation and the SHORT of our experience is that we did not receive our food until AFTER 8 p.m. When the supervisor / hostess walked by, I called her over to mention that we had been sitting for a very long time without receiving any of our order, she causally said that the waitstaff was "busy attending to 2 big parties in the other room". End of story, no apology, no suggestion for a removal of an appetizer charge, nor even the suggestion of a dessert was offered. A simply shrug of the shoulders and off she went.
Reservations are a restaurant's tool to seat and feed accodingly. If they don't honor them, what's the point?
As for the food; mediocre at best, but then again there were 2 other parties in the space.
Not worth a return trip. Ambience was cheap chic, food mediocre, service staff grossly under-attentive.
Save your $ and go to a "real" grill house.
Beautiful place great staff,,nice ambiance,,,and best of all,,great food,,will go again,,,Ams
A free dessert was not going to change the bad taste left in my mouth due to the disconnection of your staff. See you in the summer to see if things are more smooth.
Where is the Manager? Your staff needs directions. Meetings, meeting, before and after every night, very important.

I was there this past Saturday night entertaining clients. I could not have picked a better location. The service was tremendous, attentive and courteous. The young woman Rachel almost bordered on clairvoyant. From start to finish she basically dictated the meal; from wine selections to starters (the tuna tartar was amazing) to the masterful description of the chef's specials, she was able to create a dining experience that was nothing short of spectacular. Grillestone, along with Rachel and the terrific waitstaff has upped the bar for restaurants in the area!
