A thousand people show up for a library event and Mayor Glover, Deputy Mayor Gialanella and Councilman Lou Beckerman are STILL demanding the library budget be cut? Amazingly short sighted and foolish. The library is easily the most utilized municiple entity in town. Didn't Gialanella and the Mayor claim a few weeks back they "found" 67,000? Why do they have a vendetta against the library?   more ›

Fans of 'Kai the Hitchhiker' Attempting to Raise $3M in Bail Money

One man is hoping fans will open their wallets to fund the defense of an Internet celeb accused in the murder of Clark resident Joseph Galfy.

Will fans of 'Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitcher' stand by him now that the Internet celeb has been arrested for the murder of Clark's Joseph Galfy? At least one fan is, and he's asking other supporters of Kai (whose real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary) to open their wallets to fund his $3 million bail and the cost of his legal defense. Galfy, 73, was found in his Clark home on Monday morning after hosting McGillvary, 24, overnight on Saturday and Sunday. Police say that McGillvary murdered Galfy, who was found in his underwear and socks, severely beaten. McGillvary was arrested in Philadelphia on Thursday night. For his part, in a Tuesday post on his Facebook page, McGillvary alleges that he was drugged and raped, and asks readers, "…

Database Provides Information on 31,000 Flood and Salvage-Titled Vehicles

The state urges customers to consult the database before buying a car

The State Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) and Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) are urging all customers to consult their database of flood and salvage-titled vehicles before purchasing a car. That database now provides information on 31,000 such vehicles, the State MVC announced on Wednesday. It isn't illegal to sell vehicles with flood or salvaged titles. However, there are specific requirements that ensure potential purchasers are aware of the status of such vehicles, according to the MVC. “Damage sustained by vehicles must be disclosed to prospective buyers,” Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa said. “We will hold car dealers accountable for violating our Consumer Fraud Act if they fail to make such disclosures.” The database was …

Clark Mayor, Community Come to Grips With High-Profile Murder and Media Frenzy

Clark has had more than its 15 minutes of fame with three turns on the nightly news in the past 12 months.

The you-couldn't-make-this-up nature of Thursday's events has thrust the once quiet town of Clark into the media spotlight again, as the community came to grips with the arrest of alleged killer Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, aka Internet celeb "Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker." After a national search, McGillvary, 24, was arrested in Philadelphia on Thursday night for the murder of Starlite Drive resident and local attorney Joseph Galfy. It was the third such high-profile case in recent months, including the faked kidnapping and worldwide Twitter frenzy over runaway teen Kara Alongi in October and the still-unsolved murder of 73-year-old Vera Pecoraro, found with her throat slit in her home on Rolling Hill Way last July. "This many …

WE should stop letting ANY pro player get just a slap on the wrist for doing anything illegal. They should be treated just like the rest of us! ALL teams should reserve the right to rescind their contracts that are worth millions to the players! We are way toooo forgiving - just like Mike Vick! He was just sorry he got caught abusing dogs. I feel he NEVER should have been picked up by another …   more ›

New Jersey Ranks Third in %&!#@ing Survey

Swearing study ranked the most and least courteous states in the country.

Third place? We couldn’t do better than #&@$ing third place? New Jersey residents were beaten out by Ohio and Maryland in a survey ranking individuals most likely to drop swear words on a complete stranger during a phone conversation. On the flip side, analysis by the Marchex Institute found that Washington, Massachusetts and Arizona topped the list of state residents least likely to lose their cool. Marchex examined more than 600,000 calls over a year that were placed by consumers to businesses in 30 different industries. The mobile advertising company also ranked the most courteous states: South Carolina, North Carolina and Maryland. And the least courteous states: Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Indiana. Some other findings from the report…

Companies certainly have that capability. I cannot say whether they are using it. But thanks for raising the issue. That's my very point. No matter what you hear (or don't hear) on your end of the phone, it is a duplex -- not simplex -- system. So everything said on the consumer's end, at all times during a telephone-switched connection, is capable of being recorded by a company. Of course, as …   more ›
