POLICE & FIRE|Monday, March 1
Members of the Fanwood Volunteer Fire Department spent Saturday morning digging the borough's hydrants out of the snow. Heavy snowfall often covers hydrants, making them inaccessible during times of need. Saturday's crew, which included Fanwood chief Dave Clausen, his 10-year-old son Dante Clausen, firefighters Kris Piccola and Brandon Sterns, and Capt. Steve Szanto, cleared about 20 hydrants in the borough. They were also lucky to find that many homeowners had already done the work for them. The department reminds residents to take a few extra minutes to 'adopt' your nearest fire hydrant by clearing the snow from around the hydrant. This improves the firefighter's ability to quickly locate and access the hydrant in the event of an …

The "meet and greet" is part of one of the chief's larger visions for the department.
Fanwood's new police chief wants borough residents to feel comfortable sharing their concerns and ideas with him and his officers. As part of his vision to make the Fanwood Police Department more visible within the community, Richard Trigo will be hosting a "meet and greet" this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. "I want the residents of Fanwood to be able to recognize the Chief of Police and be comfortable approaching me with their concerns," he said. Trigo has about a month of work under his belt now. He took over the position on Feb. 1 after the retirement of Donald Domanoski, who'd served the department for 34 years. Trigo previously worked as a detective in Fanwood PD. The chief has told Patch he has several initiatives he hopes to …

POLICE & FIRE|Friday, February 19
The Fanwood Volunteer Fire Department is reminding residents to help keep fire hydrants clear of snow. An accessible and properly functioning fire hydrant is a vital part of any firefighting operation. Please avoid piling snow on or around fire hydrants. If possible, especially during very heavy snowfalls, take a few extra minutes to 'adopt' your nearest fire hydrant by clearing the snow from around the hydrant. This improves the firefighter's ability to quickly locate and access the hydrant in the event of an emergency.
