SPFHS Senior Receives Scholarship to Play Baseball at Manhattan College

Senior James D'Angelo received a scholarship to play baseball at the Division I College located in the Bronx, NY.

On Nov. 16 at 11:45 a.m. Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School student James D'Angelo signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Manhattan College, a Division I school in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  The senior pitcher is receiving a scholarship to play at the school, following his graduation from SPFHS. According to D'Angelo he originally wanted to attend college further away, but is happy it worked out and he will be relatively close to home, playing in the Bronx, NY. D'Angelo said he is very excited about the offer and is looking forward to attending Manhattan College. He plans on majoring in Civil Engineering and said he thinks that balancing school and baseball will be tough. "I think only certain people can handle …

SPF Travel Baseball Team Wins Championship

The team of 10-year-olds are now the 2012 Union County Spring "B" Ball League Champions.

After a nail bitting 9-8 victory over Summit, the SPF Raiders 10u Travel Team have won the final round of playoff games, becoming the 2012 Union County Spring "B" Ball League Champions. This talented team of 12 young baseball stars includes: Benjamin Engelhardt, Carter Slifer, Devin Warbeck, Dominick Romano, Gustavo Barco, Jayson Williams, Joseph Barge, Matthew Delgado, Michael Besante, Michael Urbano, Nicholas Hughes, Thomas Glastal. SPF Residents React to Union Catholic Assault

Patch brought you the story of an 18-year-old Union Catholic High School baseball player who was assaulted by a Scotch Plains resident when he went to retrive a foul ball that had landed at the tree line bordering the assaulter's Dutch Lane property. Scotch Plains Police Captain Brian Donnelly stated that Michael Bennett was charged with simple assault for this crime after he grabbed the victim by the neck and wrist, leaving scratch marks on the victim while shouting "get off my property." SP Man Charged with Assault of Union Catholic Baseball Player

Micahel Bennett, 44, has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked the player at a Union Catholic baseball game.

An 18-year-old Union Catholic High School baseball player was assaulted by a local resident on Saturday, May 12 during a UCHS baseball game. Michael Bennett, 44, of Dutch Lane in Scotch Plains was arrested at the scene and charged with simple assault after he allegedly grabbed the victim by the neck and the wrist, leaving scratch marks on the victim’s neck, Scotch Plains Police Captain Brian Donnelly said. Bennett was released with a summons pending a municipal court hearing. Captain Donnelly stated that after observing the victim attempting to retrieve the ball, Bennett ran towards the victim, yelling “get off my property” before assaulting the player.
