The Borough of Fanwood is looking for volunteers to join the many committees and groups Fanwood has to offer. In January, Mayor Colleen Mahr will appoint the various volunteers, so applications are being accepted now. “Now is the time to review the opportunities and join those wonderful folks who help make Fanwood such a wonderful place to live,” Mahr said in a letter from the Office of the Mayor. Courage to Reconnect is extending the deadline to apply following Hurricane Sandy. Commissioners are required to attend one meeting a week for six months.

Updated: Nov. 14 As residents of both towns continue to clean up from Hurricane Sandy, Courage to Reconnect Scotch Plains and Fanwood has extended the application period for those interested in serving on a municipal consolidation commission. Courage to Reconnect Scotch Plains and Fanwood, a non-partisan, grassroots group of citizens who have secured state approval for a municipal consolidation study for both towns, has extended the application deadline to November 30. The group has already received applications from a number of qualified individuals from both towns, but wants to ensure that every resident interested in serving on the commission has the opportunity to apply. …

The approved consolidation study is now looking for commissioners from Scotch Plains and Fanwood.
Courage to Re-Connect, the organization backing the study to consolidate Scotch Plains and Fanwood is beginning the search for comissioners for the study. On Sept. 12, the Local Finance Board in Trenton approved the application for the consolidation to be studied. The process calls for a total of 10 commissioners for the study. Courage to Re-Connect will sort through applicants to choose two commissioners from Scotch Plains and two from Fanwood. Following this, each town's council will choose an additional two members. Each four person group will then choose a fifth commissioner. Last week Fanwood held a special meeting on consolidation, Mayor Mahr was interested in knowing what criteria would need to be met for the commissioners. …
