Beckerman wishes the Republican candidates well and notes this historic moment for Democrats in Scotch Plains.
To the Editor: As the Scotch Plains Democratic Chairman, I want to wish Mayor DePaola and her running mate Mr. Saridaki well. I know how difficult it is to campaign, work and continue normal family life at the same time. It is a major commitment and I know that you both did it for your concern for the Town of Scotch Plains. This was a landslide victory for the people of Scotch Plains. This is the first time in the history of the town that the Democrats carried 20 of the 23 districts electing Councilman Kevin Glover as Mayor and Colleen Gialanella as Councilwoman. The voters clearly sent a mandate for change. I want to thank each and every voter regardless of which candidates or party that you voted for, for coming out and exercising your…

History of Kevin Glover and the Scotch Plains Democrats Part Two You can find the first part here. Scotch Plains Budgets From his very first budget process, Mr. Glover showed his partisanship and lack of understanding of our finances. Even with Township professionals such as our Municipal Manager, Chief Financial Officer, and Auditor, in addition to his four Council colleagues warning that expending too much of our fund-balance or surplus is dangerous to the finances of the Township, Mr. Glover would not relent. His mantra year after year was, “We can do better.” He said this of course without offering realistic alternatives to our budget appropriations. Each and every time it was all about spending down our fund balance and …

The following is a letter in reply to Holden Magroin's Letter to the Editor. Part Two. Part Three. To the Editor of the Scotch Plains Fanwood Patch: Scotch Plains Fanwood Patch policy has been to accept anonymous postings from its readership commenting on news items and opinion pieces. This is a relatively new phenomenon in media and certainly not without controversy. It is a phenomenon evidently here to stay in the age of electronic media. However, recently The Scotch Plains Fanwood Patch has allowed a frequent anonymous poster a more than prominent spot in its opinion pages to write scathing diatribes against the Scotch Plains Republican Party. I believe that it is beneath the integrity of any respected media outlet to give an …

The following is an endorsement of the Fanwood Borough Council Democratic ticket by Donna Dolce, former Borough Council Member: Political campaigns are now in full swing and as the news media focus their singular attention on the top of the ticket, I would encourage all Fanwood residents to pay closer attention to what is happening at the local level. It is the local elected leaders, that have the most immediate and effective impact on what is happening to YOU on a day-to-day basis. We have been fortunate here in Fanwood to have the unique opportunity of exceptional leadership by our Mayor, Colleen Mahr. Fanwood has been ahead of the nation for the past nine years, and continues to head in the right direction. We all know that our Mayor …

The following information was provided by the Scotch Plains Democrats. On Sunday, supporters of the Scotch Plains Democratic candidates gathered at the home of Colleen and Anthony Gialanella for a traditional Italian Sunday dinner. “What a tremendous outpouring of support! I’d love to think it was a sign of only how good the food is,” stated Mayoral candidate Kevin Glover. “However, I know it’s something even more. This election is a defining moment for our Township. Are we going to embrace the failed policies of the past 12 years that led to higher taxes and cuts in services, or are we going to move forward working together for a better Scotch Plains.” Several prominent Democrats from across Union County came out to support Kevin and …
