Register to Get Your Girls on the Run

The national girl empowerment program with sites in Union County teaches life lessons through running for girls in grades 3-8.

Why should you register your daughter in Girls on the Run? It's a program where she'll make lots of friends, learn a love of running, feel empowered and finish after 10 weeks having raced in a 5k solely created for girls like her. The fall running session did just that on a warm Sunday in November where a sea of pink hair, green glitter, navy shirts, and hair bows of all colors descended upon Somerville, New Jersey in anticipation of the Girls on the Run 5k. Coaches Wanted for 'Girls on the Run'

It's also time for girls to register for the fall program.

It’s early on a Saturday morning in June and most elementary school students would still be in bed given the choice. Yet over five hundred girls across the state are lining up to run a 5k race; a culmination of their hard work and training over the past two months to celebrate the end of the Girls on the Run spring season. A sea of sapphire shirts moves in waves; jittering girls jumping up and down matching with their hair bows and tattoos excited to get started. Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program for girls in grades 3-5, with a Girls on Track program for girls in grades 6-8. Teams meet two times a week for about 1.5 hours each session. After school sessions generally begin between 3:30-4:15 and Saturday morning sessions generally begin between 8:00-9:00. We run for ten weeks starting in the beginning on September and end with a 5k in November.
