Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Selected as Livestrong Community Impact Project Candidate

The FSP Y has been selected as a candidate for the Livestrong Community Impact project which offers $1.2 million in funding for cancer support programs.

The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.  The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA located at 1340 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains, NJ  has been selected as a candidate for the LIVESTRONG Foundation Community Impact Project, which offers $1.2 million in funding to bring proven cancer support programs to communities across the U.S. Finalists will be determined through an online voting campaign that begins today atVote.LIVESTRONG.org and runs until 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 28th. Vote for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA under Creative Center at University Settlement Artist-in-Residence Program. Local Residents Soar Through SPF 5K Run

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council hosted the 2012 United for a Cause 5K run.

On a cold last Saturday in April, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council hosted the United for a Cause 5k run and the mile walk/run. Sheri Cognetti, the race’s director, worked cohesively with PTA Council health and wellness directors Mara Levy and Christine Walker to put on the event. “It began with the pedometer initiative five years ago and has evolved into this,” said Cognetti. “This is the first race that we have worked on together with the PTA Council.” The proceeds of the event go towards the PTA Council’s health and wellness scholarship as well as funding to sustain the Livestrong at the Y program.
