Colleen Mahr Enters 10th Year As Fanwood Mayor

The 2013 reorganization meeting marked the start of Colleen Mahr's 10th year as mayor, it also welcomed two new councilmen, Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar.

  The 2013 reorganization meeting for the Borough of Fanwood kicked off Mayor Colleen Mahr’s 10th year as the mayor of Fanwood, it also welcomed two new council members, Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar. Both Levine and Molenaar were sworn in at the reorganization meeting held on Jan. 1 in the borough’s council chambers. Levine placed his hand on a bible held by his wife as he sworn in by Assemblywoman Linda Stender. While Molenaar was also sworn in by Stender while his wife held the bible. Mahr noted that moving forward in 2013 she plans to continue being “fiscally conservative,” as posted on Fanwood’s website. Mayor and Councilwoman Sworn in at Scotch Plains Reorganization Meeting

On Jan. 1, Kevin Glover and Colleen Gialanella were officially sworn in as mayor and councilwoman for the Township of Scotch Plains.

During the 2013 reorganization meeting of Scotch Plains held on Jan. 1, Mayor Kevin Glover and Councilwoman Colleen Gialanella were sworn in to serve the township. Glover was sworn in by placing one hand on the bible that was held by his wife Joanne. While Gialanella placed her hand on a bible held by her husband Anthony and her two children. At the meeting, Gialanella was voted on as the Deputy Mayor of Scotch Plains and Glover acknowledged her hard work, dedication and commitment to the community as the two move forward. Point Beach Council Turns Down Snooki and JWoww

Council may consider charging for film permits

The Point Beach Council agreed unanimously on Tuesday night to not allow MTV to film the "Snooki and Jwoww" reality show on public property in town.  Through the brief discussion about the MTV request for a permit to start shooting the two "stars" going out to local night spots, starting Thursday, Mayor Vincent Barrella said perhaps the council should think about charging for film permits. They are now free, said Point Beach Business Administrator Chris Riehl. He noted that the town charges the American Cancer Society to conduct a fundraiser on the boardwalk annually. "And yet, MTV would get a free pass," Barrella noted, adding the council should think about developing a fee for film permits. That prompted mention of the town's special …

Mary DePaola Appointed Mayor of Scotch Plains By SP Council

In an unanimous vote, DePaola was approved to fill the mayoral vacancy for the remainder of the seven-month term.

Following a unamious vote by the Scotch Plains Town Council, Deputy Mayor Mary DePaola was sworn in as the acting mayor on Monday, June 4. DePaola will serve out the remainder of former Mayor Nancy Malool’s term, which ends on December 31. “I am really happy with tonight’s outcome,” DePaola said. “I am glad that the gentlemen who were here tonight chose not to prolong this process and are dedicated to working for the people Scotch Plains and making this transition smoother for all.” Prior to the vote, Councilman Mickey Marcus reviewed the legal steps that were taken by the Scotch Plains Republican Committee to fill the vacancy. Deputy Mayor Mary DePaloa Announces Candidacy for Mayor

DePaola (R) will be running along side BOE veteran, Ed Saridaki.

Deputy Mayor Mary DePaola announced today that she will be running for Mayor in the upcoming June primary election. Her running mate, Republican Ed Saridaki will be vying for a seat on the town council. Mayor Nancy Malool could not be reached for comment. In a statement released the press this morning, Bill McClintock, Chairman of the Scotch Plains Republican Party stated that "[DePaola's] background as a structural engineer gives her a unique perspective on problem solving," McClintock said. McClintock expressed that Scotch Plains Republican Party will be launching a website and posting a schedule of events in the near future. DePaola has served as the Deputy Mayor since January 2011. 21st Mayor's Charity Gala to Honor 9/11 Memorial Volunteers

This year's gala will be held Saturday, December 3 from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Italian American Club in Scotch Plains.

Looking for a night of elegance and an opportunity to honor local volunteers? The 21st Annual Scotch Plains Mayor’s Charity Gala will be held at the Scotch Plains Italian American Club on Saturday, December 3, from 7 p.m. until midnight. This year, the gala will honor Scotch Plains 9/11 Memorial Volunteers. The memorial was designed by Ernesto Hernandez and built by Checchio Paving and D. Romeo Landscaping.  Tickets are 65 dollars and can be purchased in person at the Recreation Department, online at scotchplainsnj.com, or by calling the Recreation Department at (908) 322-6700, ext. 223.
