Letter to the Editor: Santa Thanks Children Who Visited Him at Scotch Plains Holiday Celebration

Santa Claus thanks all who made the Scotch Plains Holiday Celebration possible.

To The Editor: I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the children of all ages who came out to see me at the Holiday Celebration in Scotch Plains this past Sunday.  It was great to see so many people come out on a beautiful, unseasonably warm day.  It was so warm I had trouble keeping my glasses from getting all fogged up.  I had a lot of fun meeting so many great children and their families.  As we speak, the elves are working feverishly up at the North Pole filling all the requests. I want to thank the many people who made my visit possible.  Thanks to the Scotch Plains Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and Recreation Department for helping to set up the event and also allowing it to run smoothly.  Thank you to the …

Jay Isherwood is a Certifiable Christmas Nut!

Radio host parlays his passion for the holiday into a year-round job.

For most of us, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but Jay Isherwood’s Christmas spirit lasts all year long. And, apparently he isn’t the only one who feels this way. He is the host and program director of an Internet radio station, www.MerryChristmasRadio.com, which plays Christmas songs every day, 365 days a year.  As his station boasts, he is a certifiable Christmas nut. Last December, 70,000 listeners from all over the globe tuned into www.Live365.com to listen to the station and somewhere between 2,000 to 3,000 people were still listening in July, and throughout the off season. Isherwood anticipates the numbers will be even higher this year. This former Livingston resident always had an interest in entertainment, but it wasn’t …

Santa Visits Fanwood

Perched atop a Fanwood Fire Department Truck, Santa Claus gave out a few early Christmas presents to girls and boys around town.

About 100 family, friends and neighbors waited for eagerly for Santa to arrive at the Lynch Family home on Hunter Avenue. Although Santa travels around to the homes of boys and girls all over Fanwood, the Lynchs, who have three children of their own, have held this gathering of holiday cheer for twelve years in a row. As Fanwoodians young and old stood in the brisk but beautiful weather, enjoying donuts and hot chocolate (or even an ice cold brewsky), Dan Lynch noted that his wife Judi also invites party goers to bring a new toy to donate to children in need this holiday season. "We are very lucky to have such generous friends and neighbors," Lynch stated. As Santa Claus finally made the turn off of North Avenue and onto Hunter escorted by…

This is such a wonderful tradition. While we werent able to take part this year, we have for most of the years we've lived here. We stay home, bake cookies and wait for Santa on the fire truck. The fact that he visit individual houses -- and with such fanfare-- is terrific. This is a memory my children will treasure. Thank you to all the volunteers who make this happen.   more ›

Jolly Saint Nick sends out a special letter of gratitude for his invitation to Sunday's Holiday Celebration in downtown Scotch Plains

To the Editor: To The Editor: I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the children of all ages who came out to see me at the Holiday Celebration in Scotch Plains this past Sunday.  It was great to see so many people come out on a beautiful, unseasonably warm day.  Even Darth Vader looked like he was having a good time. Thank you to the Scotch…

Scotch Plains Holiday Celebration Delights Local Families

Local families were dazzled by Sunday's celebration in downtown Scotch Plains

Despite the unseasonably warm weather, downtown Scotch Plains was overcome with holiday spirit on Sunday. Local families gathered in the Village Green, eager to see Santa Claus himself arrive in sparkling holiday splendor aboard a bright, red fire engine.  Jolly St. Nick was the guest of honor at the Scotch Plains Old Fashioned Holiday Celebration, and was kept company by sheep and goats in the petting zoo, two Clydesdales pulling the wagon ride, Rainbow the Clown and yes, even Darth Vader. Still, there was no debating when in came to the main attraction. “We wanted the kids to get out to see Santa,” said Patrick Thompson of Scotch Plains. His daughters, Veronica, 6, and Emily, 3, also enjoyed feeding the animals in the petting zoo. Before…
