The following information was provided by the Scotch Plains Police Department via UC First Alert. Storm Update: Conditions are expected to deteriorate tonight into Thursday morning. Rain and wet snow are expected. 2-3 inches of snow is expected to accumulate overnight. Our DPW and the Union County DPW will be working throughout the storm to clear and salt the roads. Please avoid unnecessary travel tonight into Thursday morning to allow the plows to do their jobs safely. For storm related issues, such as blocked streets, downed trees, etc please call our Police Desk 908-322-7100. The following information was provided by the JCC of Central Jersey. The fourth annual University Lecture Series at the JCC is back on March 7, 11 and 19. All sessions are from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the JCC, 1391 Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains. The JCC’s lecture series is intended as a vehicle for intellectual conversation and stimulating debate about topics of Jewish content and/or relevance. Award winning screenwriter Jennifer Harrison of Fanwood and accomplished actress Lainie Ventura of Scotch Plains will begin filming their movie, "Sitter" this summer.
Jennifer Harisson an award winning screen writer of Fanwood and friend, Lainie Ventura an accomplished actress of Scotch Plains, are working on an independent movie titled, “Sitter,” set to begin filming this summer. The film is loosely based off a real life experience of Harrison’s involving her babysitter and is set to shoot in Ventura’s Scotch Plains home, the restaurant Rudy’s in Garwood and an office in Edison. Harrison explained that she jokingly discussed with a friend how she was fearful of her babysitter leaving since she was so reliant on the sitter when her children were younger and her friend suggested she turn it into a script, which is what Harrison ultimately did. Pharmacy agreed to retrain all staff on pharmacy procedures and to pay $650,000 to the state for a public awareness campaign about the proper use of prescription drugs.
The state Division of Consumer Affairs and CVS-Caremark reached an agreement addressing the commingling of prescription drugs at five New Jersey locations in 2012. A total of 15 parents who filled their children's chewable fluoride prescriptions in December 2011 and January 2012 at the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street in Chatham Borough reported noting tablets in the bottles that were not like the others. The strange pills turned out to be the breast cancer drug tamoxifen. Both pills are white, round and about the same size. Tamoxifen pills have the letter "M" stamped on one side and "274" on the other. Fluoride pills have the letters "SCI" on one side and the numbers "1007" on the other. Attorney General Jeffrey S. Since the end of December several GPS units and other items have been stolen from unlocked vehicles in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.
Since Dec. 28, several thefts have been reported in the police blotters for Scotch Plains and Fanwood, mostly to unlocked vehicles. Patch has created a map that provides a look at the locations of these thefts (attached to this article). For a more detailed look, visit the map on Google Maps. Here's a look at when the thefts occurred and what was stolen: Terrill Rd, Scotch Plains: On Jan. 25 a Terrill Road business owner reported several hundred dollars in cash was stolen overnight. Cook Ave, Scotch Plains: On Jan. 13 a laptop was stolen from a locked vehicle, but there were no signs of forced entry.

A section of piping will be repaired following the summer water main break.
Update Feb. 25 During the week of Feb. 25, Madison Ave. between Martine Ave. and Russell Road will be closed while NJ American Water continues pipeline repairs. The road will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., but one lane will be open to traffic between 8:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m, according to Fanwood Police. A message sent out by the Borough of Fanwood stated that the schedule should allow for a safe school drop-off routine. Update Feb. 18 The ongoing pipeline repair will continue on Kate Street between Carol Place and Dead End beginning on Feb. 19 and ending on Feb. 22, weather permitting.
