If Wall Street is to rebuild its reputation as the as financial center of the world, it will likely do so with eager young people like Scotch Plains Fanwood High School senior Emily Ho. This summer, Ho attended a unique week-long residential business camp - known as Wall Street 101 - that introduced her to the stock market and investing and portfolio management while also helping to develop leadership and teamwork skills. “Wall Street 101 made me want to pursue something business related because it gave me a deeper understanding of what I will get myself into if I did choose to pursue a business path,” Ho said after completing the 00 week course. District plans training and surveys to help students deal with those being bullied — and the kids who pick on them.
As part of a statewide initiative against bullying in schools, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District hosted a forum to inform the community about the measures it has taken against bullying, as well as measures for preventing bullying in the future. The forum, led by District Anti-Bullying Coordinator Cailin Taggart, covered steps the district has taken — including the addition of her position — that is meant to curb bullying and prevent incidences in the future, she said. In the past year, the district has assigned anti-bullying supervisors in each school, developed recording keeping systems for bullying incidences, training for the entire staff and held parent and community education about the steps the district has taken. Taggart …

Raiders will try to rebound Thursday vs. Westfield
Before the Scotch Plains-Fanwood girls’ basketball team hosts Watchung Division arch rival Westfield Thursday at 4 p.m. the Raiders will be working on trying to break a full court press without turning the ball over. Because of an inability to push the ball up court against a swarming-from-every-angle full court defense put forth by Morris County power Randolph Saturday night, a nip-and-tuck game turned into a rout well before halftime. Buoyed by an inside game that led to easy layups and then an immediate hand-in-the-face defense, Randolph – after trailing by one point following the first quarter – scored the first 15 points of the second quarter to take the lead for good en route to a commanding 67-39 non-conference triumph. Scotch …

Athletic Director Ryan Miller selected junior goalie for the Boys Varsity Soccer Team as the Athlete of the Week.
As an outstanding season for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Boys Varsity Soccer team came to a close, it seemed only fitting that Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Ryan Miller selected Vinne Bianco, junior goalie as Athlete of the Week. Miller commented not only on Bianco’s superior athletic skill, but also on his character. “Bianco is simply one of the best young men I have encountered in athletics,” Miller stated. Coach Tom “Brez” Breznitsky also commented on Bianco’s performance this season. “He had 15 shutouts and allowed only seven goals while he was the goalkeeper [this season.] Vinnie just started playing goal full time last year so his accomplishments are tremendous. He was one of the hardest working players on the …

Bullying will never stop. Look at most of the bullies and look at their parents ,same behavior. The moms are like a group of high schoolers in their own little clique and the fathers are just clueless or don't have the time to be bothered. When you are an individual having to go up against people like that it gets worse for your child and yourself, everyone is giving you mean looks. So if your …   more ›
