Beckerman wishes the Republican candidates well and notes this historic moment for Democrats in Scotch Plains.

To the Editor: As the Scotch Plains Democratic Chairman, I want to wish Mayor DePaola and her running mate Mr. Saridaki  well. I know how difficult it is to campaign, work and continue normal family life at the same time. It is a major commitment and I know that you both did it for your concern for the Town of Scotch Plains. This was a landslide victory for the people of Scotch Plains. This is the first time in the history of the town that the Democrats carried 20 of the 23 districts electing Councilman Kevin Glover as Mayor and Colleen Gialanella as Councilwoman. Mayor-Elect, Kevin Glover, Thanks Residents and Intends to Work Towards Full Power Restoration

Kevin Glover, who defeated current Mayor Mary DePaola in the Mayoral election, thanks residents for their support.

Updated 10p.m. to include the latest results. Democrats, Kevin Glover and Colleen Gialanella celebrated their win at a private residence on Tuesday evening. Glover and Gialanella each received over 1,000 more votes than current mayor, Mary DePaola and current Councilman, Edward Saridaki (see charts below for exact numbers). Where the Scotch Plains Candidates Stand: The Sewer Utility Fee

At the Oct. 25 Scotch Plains Fanwood-Times candidates forum, candidates answered questions on the issues facing Scotch Plains.

On Oct. 25, The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Times held a debate at the Scotch Plains Municipal building between council candidates, Colleen Gialanella(D) and Edward Saridaki ( R ) and Mayoral Candidates, Mary DePaola ( R ) and Kevin Glover(D). Another pressing issue that is often brought up by Patch Commenters, and was brought up to the candidates by moderator, Fred Rossi, is the Scotch Plains Sewer utility fee. Councilman Saridaki explained that when the Rahway Valley Sewage Authority (RVSA) was asked to build new facilities, they then had to past the costs on to the 11 towns which use those facilities, Scotch Plains being one of them.  He added, "if that was expense into our annual budget we would exceed the cap requiring Scotch Plains to go …

At the Oct. 25 Scotch Plains Fanwood-Times candidates forum, candidates answered questions on the issues facing Scotch Plains.

On Oct. 25, The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Times held a debate at the Scotch Plains Municipal building between council candidates, Colleen Gialanella(D) and Edward Saridaki® and Mayoral Candidates, Mary DePaola® and Kevin Glover(D). Moderator, Fred Rossi of the Times, asked both sets of candidates if the believe the Special Improvement District(SID) works? Glover answered the questions by saying, "In the words of Mary… it's(SID) been a failure."  Referencing the Candidates Forum held by the Tea Party earlier in the election. Where the Fanwood Candidates Stand: Downtown Fanwood, Seniors and Young People

A look at the issues discussed at the Oct. 24, Fanwood Candidates Forum.

At the Oct. 24 Candidates Forum in Fanwood, Democratic Candidates Jack Molenaar and Dan Levine responded to questions along with current Republican council members, Mike Szuch and Robert Manduca, who are running for re-election. The candidates were asked important questions about consolidation and shared services by moderator, Fred Rossi. In addition to those issues, Rossi started off the forum by asking the candidates if they think the many renovations Downtown Fanwood has received is a success and what problems they think exist. Molenaar joined the Fanwood Council in 1994, as a city planner he immediately became a part of the downtown redevelopment committee.  Molenaar said he considers downtown Fanwood his baby. Where the Fanwood Candidates Stand: Consolidation and Shared Services

A look at the issues discussed at the Oct. 24, Fanwood Candidates Forum.

On Oct. 24 the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Times held a candidates forum for Fanwood council elections, featuring Republican incumbents Mike Szuch and Robert Manduca and Democratic candidates Jack Moelnaar and Dan Levine. Moderator, Fred Rossi of the Times/Westfield Leader, addressed the candidates with questions ranging from the big issue of consolidation to what the candidates hope to do for senior citizens and the younger people of Fanwood. One important issue facing Fanwood right now is the possible consolidation of the town with Scotch Plains.
