The following information was provided by the Small Business Administration. The U.S. Small Business Administration is reminding eligible private non-profit (PNP) organizations in New Jersey of the Jan. 4 deadline to submit disaster loan applications for damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. Examples of eligible non-critical PNP organizations include, but are not limited to food kitchens, homeless shelters, museums, libraries, community centers, schools and colleges. The SBA offers low interest disaster loans to private non-profit organizations for physical losses up to its loan limits. The following information was provided by the Small Business Administration. U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Karen G. Mills has approved an extension of the deadline for Hurricane Sandy survivors in New Jersey to return their disaster home and business loan applications for physical damage to January 30, 2013. “The extension will allow the homeowners, renters and businesses additional time to submit their SBA disaster loan applications and obtain the funding they need for disaster related repairs and replacements” said NJ District Director Al Titone. “The key to rebuilding is to access all of the available resources and not wait for insurance to be settled. On Dec. 5, Scotch Plains held a meeting for small business owners with FEMA and the Small Business Administration.
Members of FEMA and the Small Business Administration are urging Scotch Plains business owners and residents whose homes and stores suffered damage during Superstorm Sandy to apply for assistance whether or not they have heard back from their insurance companies. According to Jessica Paul, the public affairs specialist of the Small Business Administration, oftentimes people do not file because they are waiting for a settlement from their insurance company. At the Dec. 5 meeting set up by the Scotch Plains Office of Emergency management for businesses to meet with FEMA and SBA, Paul told those in attendance that SBA works with the insurance company so there will never be an overlap of funds. Individuals in every New Jersey county are now eligible to apply for federal disaster relief, the governor's office announced Tuesday. All residents and businesses can now apply for Individual Assistance through FEMA and the Small Business Administration. The state had already been approved for Public Assistance, which is available to state and local governments as well as nonprofits. Individual Assistance relief allows residents to apply for aid including temporary housing, repair, Disaster Unemployment Assistance and Small Business Administration loans.
