Will you be there? SPFHS to take on Governor Livingston in Union County Finals

The UC Final boys varsity soccer game will take place Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Kean University.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Boys Varsity soccer team, ranked No. 1 by the Courier News Top 10, defeated Elizabeth High School 1-0 on Sunday night. SPFHS will match up against Governor Livingston High School who scored against Westfield in a shootout during the semi-finals, winning 2-1. Local Soccer Champs Need Your Help to Compete at Nationals

Eight Scotch Plains boys are looking to the community for help covering the cost to play at the National Championship in California. Here's how you can help.

Eight local boys are now on their way to a National Soccer Championship, after winning the U-14  U.S. Youth Soccer Association Eastern Regional of the Presidents Cup. The championship took place during Memorial Day weekend in Manchester, New Hampshire.    As part of the Metuchen Rovers Travel Soccer Club, the team is no stranger to triumph. The driven team mates went 5 – 0 in the regionals, defeating a team from Massachusetts in the finals, 6 -5. The team went on to qualify for the regionals by winning the N.J.Y.S.A. A family argument led to the murder of a Deptford man early Friday morning, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. Chad Gatewood, 45, and his nephew, Elijah P. Gatewood-Gabriel, 20, allegedly got in a confrontation around midnight, when Gatewood stabbed Gatewood-Gabriel multiple times with a kitchen knife in the family's apartment, GCPO spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said. Tax collections in New Jersey are running $230 million behind Gov. Chris Christie's projections after April revenue came up short, according to a state Treasury report released Tuesday. Predators Soccer Club Captures League Title

U14 team made up of local players finishes indoor season undefeated and claims regional championship at Metuchen Complex.

As winter sports come to a close and young athletes begin to venture back out onto the turf fields, local parents are lauding the accomplishments of youth that proved victorious on the floor this winter season. The Predators, an Alumni Academy competitive soccer team is made up of players from Scotch Plains, Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Colonia and Watchung. After an undefeated season playing in the indoor league at the Metuchen Complex, the team won the championship playoffs on March 24. The U14 B Predators have only been playing together since September 2011 making the undefeated season an especially outstanding achievement. Athlete of the Week: Vinnie Bianco

Athletic Director Ryan Miller selected junior goalie for the Boys Varsity Soccer Team as the Athlete of the Week.

As an outstanding season for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Boys Varsity Soccer team came to a close, it seemed only fitting that Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Ryan Miller selected Vinne Bianco, junior goalie as Athlete of the Week. Miller commented not only on Bianco’s superior athletic skill, but also on his character. “Bianco is simply one of the best young men I have encountered in athletics,” Miller stated. Coach Tom “Brez” Breznitsky also commented on Bianco’s performance this season. “He had 15 shutouts and allowed only seven goals while he was the goalkeeper [this season.] Vinnie just started playing goal full time last year so his accomplishments are tremendous. Youth Boys and Girls Soccer Garner Championships

The Scotch Plains Panthers and the Metuchen Rovers Travel Soccer Team emerged victorious on Saturday, November 19

Saturday, November 19 was a triumphant day for boys and girls youth soccer as two exceptional teams; the Scotch Plains Panthers and the Metuchen Rovers Travel Soccer Team each captured victories at the end of two outstanding seasons. The Scotch Plains Panthers found victory, beating rival team, Westfield Freedom in 4-2 shootouts to capture the U14 Group C Inter-County Girls Championship on Saturday. On Saturday, the Metuchen Rovers Travel Soccer team won the U-14 New Jersey Youth Soccer Association State Cup.  The 18 boys, 8 of whom are from Scotch Plains became champions, played their hearts out, tying the game in the last two minutes of regulation play and scoring the two winning goals in overtime.  This is the second straight State …

Raiders Boys Soccer Ready For Sectional Semifinal

Raiders will play Chatham Cougars tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School.

After a ferocious victory over the Union Farmers at the County Championship last Sunday, the Scotch Plains Fanwood Boys Varsity Soccer team is "fired up" for the State Sectional game against the Chatham Cougars which is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School. The championship was the first since 2007 and was also the first time that any of the players had experienced winning the county title. The Raiders are currently the number one seed in the tournament and stand strong at 20 - 2. Chatham, the number three seed beat Scotch Plains Fanwood last year in an agonizing 3 - 0 defeat. Goalie, Vinnie Bianco, who has delivered 14 shut outs this season is more than ready for the rematch.
