Changes Coming to South Avenue in 2013

New businesses and cell towers to appear in Fanwood in 2013.

  Fanwood will be seeing several changes on South Avenue in 2013, including new businesses and cell towers, according the Zoning Officer Ray Sullivan's report during the Feb. 5 Fanwood Council Meeting.  As Patch previously reported, Mara’s Café will be the first business to occupy the currently vacant first level of Fanwood Crossing at the corner of Martine and South Avenue. The over 3,000 square foot café and bakery will offer breakfast, desserts, pastries, bread, quiches and more. The Café is hoping it can serve as a place for families and a place where people can sit down and talk with no television, owner Marci Semel said. Also coming to South Avenue is a wood burning pizzeria in the former location of the Cavtro Electric building. …

While the A&P is close, it is disgusting. It could use a makeover! Hopefully that is on this South Ave. plan. I hope they don't open another dry cleaner or nail salon. I think Fanwood has more salons and dry cleaner per capita then any other town.   more ›

Pedestrian Struck Near Fanwood Train Station

On Friday, Dec. 14 a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Sheelan's Crossing and South Avenue.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the Fanwood Train Station on Friday morning.  According to Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo, the accident occurred at 6:41 a.m. at Sheelan's Crossing and South Avenue in Fanwood. The pedestrian's injuries are non-life threatening, Trigo said. The accident is still under investigation by the Fanwood Police Department. There's something about the stretch of South Ave. between Fanwood and Westfield that brings out the worst in people. I've been in a motorcycle accident along this stretch and I regularly have to dodge cars walking through the intersection of South and Martine. I've seen every flavor of inconsiderate, rude and dangerous behavior along this stretch of road. Doesn't surprise me that somebody got hit…   more ›
