A Scotch Plains woman whose inspiring work at the NJ Sharing Network Foundation has helped the organization reach new heights, has been named Volunteer of the Year as part of the NJBiz Health Care Hero awards. Donna Albanese, who ten years ago donated a kidney to her mother, was recognized for her decade-long advocacy for organ and tissue donation. She has spoken to hundreds of groups and thousands of people on the importance of organ and tissue donation, and in January, 2010, she took on the role of Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for NJ Sharing Network Foundation. “Donna has long been a health care hero for all of us here at NJ Sharing Network Foundation. Joe Griffith and Scott Nizolak, both of Scotch Plains were selected to participate in the 2012 NJ Boy’s Youth Lacrosse All-Star game. The two are active members of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Youth Lacrosse Club. Joe and Scott are are both in eighth grade and attend Terrill Middle School in Scotch Plains. The All-Star Games were held on June 10th at Madison High School. The boys played on the NJ Central All Star team. Joe Griffith had two goals and two assists and Scott Nizolak had four assists in the win over NJ Northeast All Star team.

Nychole Hunt and Nicole Washington will compete at the Miss New Jersey Pageant on Saturday in Ocean City. Events start with the parade on Wednesday and conclude with the crowning on Saturday.
This Saturday, Scotch Plains residents, Nychole Hunt and Nicole Washington will have the honor of competing in the Miss New Jersey Pageant. Having won the prestigious title, Miss Eastern Shore, Nychole Hunt will be competing in the hopes of raising awarenss for Sickle Cell Anemia. She is a student at the University of Phoenix. She will sing during the talent portion of the competition. Nicole Washington will be competing in the pageant as Miss Union County. Her platform is adoption reform and awareness and her talent is dance. She is a student at Seton Hall University. Mayor Colleen Mahr inaugurated the newly unveiled “Welcome to Fanwood Sign” on Sunday, June 3rd. The sign, sited at the intersection of South and La Grande Avenue, is the culmination of an Eagle Scout Project completed by Ricky Abichandani of Troop 33. Abichandani thanked Mayor Mahr, the Fanwood Business Association, the Fanwood Environmental Commission, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club, his Troop leaders, fellow Scouts, and parents for their support and contributions. “Scouts and volunteers have spent over 100 hours preparing, installing and landscaping the sign and the surrounding area," the scout said. An employee of the Chelsea at Fanwood assisted living residence climbed down several 6-foot-deep sewer inlets on Friday, to rescue six baby ducklings who fell through a grate. Jonathan Morales-Gonzalez, Building Services Director for the Chelsea, lifted off three cast iron grates in the rear parking lot and back yard of the residence with a crowbar and climbed down each to the bottom, following the cheeping sound of the ducklings, which were moving through the sewer system. One by one, he grabbed the ducklings and handed them up to other waiting staffers who placed them in a box for safe keeping. After an operation that lasted about 30 minutes, the ducklings were reunited with their worried mother, who had been pacing and quacking the …
