NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets During Storm

Cross-honoring in effect through Thursday.

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead. Customers are reminded that many NJ Transit rail lines …

Typical NJ Transit. They will cross-honor tickets during the storm. They should do that all the time! There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. It would be helpful if NJT would, at some point, let customers know what their travel options are if rail is out. For example, if service goes out on the Morris & Essex …   more ›

HURRICANE SANDY: JCP&L Says it Learned From Its Mistakes

Stresses storm may knock out power for 7-10 days

Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) President Don Lynch says the company has learned from the mistakes it made from Hurricane Irene and is ready for Hurricane Sandy and the threat it poses to the state. The company took heat when Hurricane Irene left many New Jersey towns without power for days - and, in some cases, weeks. Many thought JCP&L's response was too slow. The biggest lesson learned is getting the information out to customers and municipalities as specifically, quickly and often as possible, Lynch said. The company wants its customers to know as much information as possible, he said. "Just know that Jersey Central will be working hard day and night - we've already started, should that storm hit shore here and cause outages …

Union County Preparing for Hurricane Sandy

Update on County activities leading up to storm.

The following was released by Union County at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26. -------------- With Hurricane Sandy still on track to hit the Union County area by Monday, the Freeholder Board is urging residents to take steps to prepare this weekend. “Union County will be at the ready with personnel and equipment, and everyone can help our community get through this safely by taking a few simple steps,” said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella. Mirabella reminded County residents that basic steps include stocking up on a few days’ worth of food and water, including ready-to-eat food. Persons using prescription drugs or medical equipment should check those supplies, too.  Because strong winds are predicted, it is also important to bring trash …

In Photos: Snow in Scotch Plains, Fanwood

Share your photos with us too!

The unseasonably early snowfall Saturday left thousands without power, downed trees and power lines and made for a history-making storm. As of 11 p.m. Saturday, 17,000 Jersey Central Power & Light customers were without power in Union County. For PSE&G customers, as many as 5,000 Scotch Plains residents were without power and up to 2,000 Fanwood residents were also in the dark. Because of the number of damaged trees and downed power lines, the utility says it could be Wednesday before power is fully restored. PSE&G reminds residents that downed wires should always be considered “live.”  Residents should not approach or drive over a downed line and not touch anything that it might be in contact with. To report a downed wire and other …
