The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Swim Team won 23 events, 7 relays and set 7 records at a meet in Long Island in December.

The following information was provided by The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (“FSPY”) swim team competed against thirteen teams from four states at the Long Island Holiday Invitational, held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in December. FSPY competitors won 23 individual events and 7 relays, setting 7 team records (“TR”). Seventy-one FSPY swimmers scored (top 16) in individual events. Contributing to this team effort, Abigail DiGiorgio, Monika Burzynski , and Nolan Kearns provided “breakout” performances by earning “high point” awards within their age groups for the first time in their young careers. The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) boys Black Swim Team had some outstanding performances but came up short against the Lakeland Hill YMCA boys swim team at their recent dual meet. For the 8&Under boys, Brandon Cortez touched first in the 25 Freestyle and 25 Backstroke, while Owen Higinbotham was first in the 25 Butterfly. Connor Jablonski was second in the 8&Under 50 Free, while Richard Panikiewsky, Kevin Foley and James Sullivan each posted season-best times. The 9-10 boys had top finishes by Matthew Chen (1st 50 Free) and Jeremy Kronheimer (3rd 100 IM). Heavyweight wrestler Anthony Tufaro and 27 members of the boys' swim team were honored for their exceptional seasons at Thursday's Board of Education meeting.
Friends and family filled every seat and lined the walls of the meeting room as the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education paid tribute to champion wrestler Anthony Turfaro and members of the boys' varsity swim team. The Board honored Tufaro and his coach, TJ Gavor, for their stellar season. The SPF high school Varsity Wrestling Team had their most triumphant season in five years, ending with a solid record of 33 wins and 5 losses. Turfaro, a junior who wrestles in the heavyweight division, began his winning streak by winning the Union City Invitational Tournament. After that, he won the Union County Tournament, placed third in the District 11 Tournament and then captured the Region 2 Tournament heavyweight title. After competing …
