Fanwood Says Farewell to Two Council Members, Honors OEM as Volunteer of the Month

The Borough of Fanwood said goodbye to council members Mike Szuch and Robert Manduca, who lost in the recent election. Fanwood also honored the Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Howard Drewes for his work during Sandy.

Mayor Colleen Mahr and Council President Russ Huegel said their final farewell to two current council members, Mike Szuch and Robert Manduca at the Dec. 18 council meeting. Szuch and Manduca lost in the recent election for council to democratic candidates, Jack Moleenar and Dan Levine. The two departing members were awarded with plaques featuring the borough seal. On the township website, Mahr was quoted saying, "It was a great pleasure to sit with them for the past three years." Also at the Dec. 18 meeting, Fanwood Emergency Management Coordinator Howard Drewes was announced as volunteer of the month. Owners of K-9 Resorts Honored as Fanwood Volunteers of the Month

For the first time, Fanwood honors business owners as Volunteer of the Month.

At the Oct. 16 Fanwood Council Meeting, Mayor Mahr called upon two business owners as Fanwood's Volunteers of the Month. The brothers, Steven and Jason Parker own K-9 Resorts and co-chaired Fanny Wood Day. Mahr noted that over 200 residents volunteer in some way for Fanwood and for the first time the council wanted to focus on a local business, following the success of Fanny Wood Day.  "We wanted to acknoweldge those who go beyond just having a business address in Fanwood," Mahr said. Steven Parker thanked the Mayor for honoring himself and his brother Jason. "We really appreaciate all the residents and all of our customers."
