The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA are "United for a Cause."
The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA together with the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council are pleased to announce they are joining forces once again and will host a 2nd Annual 5K Run and Family 1 Miler on Saturday, April 6th beginning at 8:30 am. The event will start and end at the Y located at 1340 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains. Their goals are “United” to celebrate and provide opportunities for health and wellness within the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community. The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. This past weekend was a busy one for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Gymnastic Teams. The “C” teams traveled through snowplowed roads to Somerset Valley YMCA on Saturday, February 9th and the “A” and “B” teams competed at Madison Area YMCA on Sunday, February 10th. In the “A” Division, two Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnasts competed in the Level 9 competition. Senior Zoe-Nicole Stein and Kacie Bumiller each had great meets. Awards were not presented that the Level 9 division but both gymnasts earned All Around scores clinching their qualification to compete at the 2013 National Championship meet in the Championship Division. Court Masters, Hooptown and Fast Break win in Week 8.
The following information was provided by Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Continuing with the electrifying play that has been exhibited, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League hit week 8 of this 2013 season. As the 6 teams jockey for playoff positions, 4 are tied for third place. In game one, Court Masters, 53 and Above the Rim, 29. Both teams came into the game running with thin benches, missing players. Court Masters jumped out early, taking a 26-16 halftime lead. As the second half continued, Court Masters took advantage of Above the Rim’s weak zone defense, pouring in more debilitating 3-pointers, finishing with 7 buckets from behind the arc. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League’s season continues to get closer to the playoffs with Fast Break clearly leading the pack with only one loss with the majority of the teams all hovering around .500. This week saw a tight game between Courtmasters and Double Dribble with Courtmaster’s recording their second win. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League was back in action this past Sunday with teams looking to make their move in the 2013 standings. Game one ended with Fast Break 56 and Got Skillz 31. Playing without their two leading scorers, Got Skillz faced a formidable opponent, Fast Break. Stocked with key weapons, Steve Lee led all scorers with 19 points and a healthy 17 buckets from Tim Gray, Fast Break ran away with it. The following information was provided by The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (“FSPY”) swim team competed against thirteen teams from four states at the Long Island Holiday Invitational, held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in December. FSPY competitors won 23 individual events and 7 relays, setting 7 team records (“TR”). Seventy-one FSPY swimmers scored (top 16) in individual events. Contributing to this team effort, Abigail DiGiorgio, Monika Burzynski , and Nolan Kearns provided “breakout” performances by earning “high point” awards within their age groups for the first time in their young careers. The following information is provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men's Basketball League’s season continued with week two match-ups, giving teams the chance to solidify their starting rosters as players become more familiar with each other. In the first game, Fast Break, 60 and HoopTown, 42. Fast Break started slow, but finished the first half with a lead that would be too big for HoopTown to recover. HoopTown's Brian Parker led all scoring with 28 points. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to offset the balanced shooting attack of Fast Break who had multiple players finish with double-digit points including Jason Holley with 22 and Tim Gray with 14.
