Gov. Christie Nominates to Appoint SP Resident to Commission on Cancer Research

Governor Christie has nominated Huifeng Niu of Scotch Plains be appointed to the New Jersey State Commission on Cancer Research.

On Jan. 28, Governor Chris Christie nominated, or filed a notice of intent to nominate, individuals who were previously nominated but not confirmed during the 215th legislative session, according to a release from the Office of the Governor.  One of Christie's nominations for appointments was Huifeng Niu, Ph.D. of Scotch Plains to the New Jersey State Commission on Cancer Research. Huifeng Niu is currently the Associate Director of Translational Medicine at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, according to Linkedin. Niu received a Ph.D. from The Chicago Medical School in 1995 in Pharmacology and Molecular Biology.  Following Niu's Postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University from 1995 to 1997, she held the position of Senior Associate Research …

Scotch Plains Appoints New Attorney, Engineer and Risk Management Consultant

At the Jan. 15 Scotch Plains council business meeting the township made new appointments to the administration.

 The Township of Scotch Plains passed four resolutions on Jan. 15 to appoint a new township attorney, township engineer and risk management consultant. Prior to the appointments, Councilman Bo Vastine suggested they be removed from the new business consent agenda in order to be voted on separately. Vastine expressed that he felt it was important for the township to be transparent with its decisions and to inform the public of the new appointments the township has made. “One of my concerns, and one of the reasons I wanted to say this, is that even though I do believe all the firms we are going to work with are well qualified, one of the things that we lose with a large turnover on service providers that work with the township is a lot of …

Planning Board Holds Final Meeting of 2012

Board members say goodbye at the possible last meeting with the same group of members.

  Two new board members were sworn in at the Dec. 10 planning board meeting, as some of the past board members reflected on their experiences on the board. James Fawcett and Richard Polhamus are the two recently appointed planning board members, both gave their oath to serve on the planning board at the Monday evening meeting. Since four members terms are up at the end of the year, board member Joseph Doyle wanted to address the board about his time serving the board. Doyle said it is very likely that new appointments will be made by the new mayor and not all of the members will be together in 2013. “Regardless of whether we’re all back together again, my feeling for this board and for my expertise with this board is unparalleled,” he said…
