A 'Giant' Celebration at MetLife Stadium For Local Children's Hospital

Public invited to Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation's 25th Umbrella Gala on Oct. 16 to benefit new outpatient therapy center. Hospital has location in Mountainside.

Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their annual Umbrella Gala at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Current and former NFL and New York Giants players have been invited to attend the celebration. The proceeds from this year’s Umbrella Gala will benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital’s new outpatient therapy center in Newark—the 10th for Children’s Specialized Hospital, the largest pediatric rehabilitation system of its kind in the nation—scheduled to open in Newark in 2013. The outpatient center will offer physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech, psychology and physician services and allow hundreds of families to receive access to services closer to home.  Michael …

Buying a Frozen Treat to Benefit Children's Specialized Hospital

Children's Specialized Hospital — with a location in Fanwood —will benefit from a special promotion by Dairy Queen on July 26.

Sometimes a cold treat can give you a very warm feeling. That'll be the case on July 26 when Dairy Queen will be teaming with Children's Specialized Hospital to offer delicious frozen treats to help children in need as part of the sixth annual Miracle Treat Day. On that day, $1 or more from every Blizzard sold at participating locations will be donated by Dairy Queen to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Proceeds from the sale of Blizzards at the following participating locations in New Jersey will benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital. Three SPF Girl Scouts Honored with Gold Awards

The Gold Award is the highest achievement a girl scout can receive. This spring, Lindsey Wilkinson, Carly Whitmer and Abigail Slaugh received this prestigious award for their contributions to this community.

Fanwood-Scotch Plains Girl Scouts gathered May 29 to honor girls who had achieved the organization’s highest awards, and to mark the passage of Girl Scouts in the class of 2012 from high school to adulthood. Three girls from Fanwood-Scotch Plains earned the Gold Award this year. To earn the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, a girl must complete a series of prerequisites then design and carry out a Gold Award project which uses her talents and strengths to address a need in the community which she personally cares about. The projects carried out by this year’s recipients reflect their varied interests. Children's Specialized Hospital Attempts Guinness World Record

Locations in Mountainside and Fanwood participated in mass bubble blowing.

More than 350 employees of Children’s Specialized Hospital, as well as patients and families at nine different locations including three in Union County — in Mountainside, Fanwood and Roselle Park — participated in “Blow Bubbles for Autism" on April 26. The bubble blowing was part of a national effort organized by FACES 4 Autism in an effort to break the Guinness World Record for People Blowing Bubbles.  The rational was described as follows by Children's Specialized Hospital: Bubbles are symbols of joy, hope and laughter.
