Children’s Craft Studio, Retail Shop Coming to Fanwood Crossing This June

Demian and Amy Boroff of Fanwood will be opening their business Be Craftful at Fanwood Crossing.

Fanwood residents Amy and Demian Boroff will be opening Fanwood Crossing’s second business Be Craftful at 250 South Avenue, this June. The part craft studio, part retail shop dons a tagline “Create, Gift, Giggle” and is a place where you can go with your kids, Amy Boroff said. “There’s definitely a lack of places you can go with your kids, “ Amy said of Fanwood. “This is what we’ve been needing.” However, Boroff said ‘Be Craftful’ would also host nights just for mommies. Be Craftful will be part ‘craft pit,’ as the Boroff’s call it, and other half retail.  The establishment will host birthday parties, as well as be a one stop shop for gifts if you’re heading out to a shower or birthday party and don’t want to hop on Route 22, Amy said. …

Changes Coming to South Avenue in 2013

New businesses and cell towers to appear in Fanwood in 2013.

Fanwood will be seeing several changes on South Avenue in 2013, including new businesses and cell towers, according the Zoning Officer Ray Sullivan's report during the Feb. 5 Fanwood Council Meeting.  As Patch previously reported, Mara’s Café will be the first business to occupy the currently vacant first level of Fanwood Crossing at the corner of Martine and South Avenue. The over 3,000 square foot café and bakery will offer breakfast, desserts, pastries, bread, quiches and more. The Café is hoping it can serve as a place for families and a place where people can sit down and talk with no television, owner Marci Semel said. Also coming to South Avenue is a wood burning pizzeria in the former location of the Cavtro Electric building. …

While the A&P is close, it is disgusting. It could use a makeover! Hopefully that is on this South Ave. plan. I hope they don't open another dry cleaner or nail salon. I think Fanwood has more salons and dry cleaner per capita then any other town.   more ›

Mara’s Café and Bakery Coming to Fanwood Crossing

Fanwoodians will soon welcome Mara’s Café and Bakery in the vacant retail space below Fanwood crossing.

Marci and Mark Semel of Fanwood will be opening Mara’s Café and Bakery — the first business in the vacant retail space on the street level of Fanwood Crossing. Semel said they are very excited to be opening the space and expect it to be open sometime in March.  “We are very excited about the location, the town and the franchisees,” said Ian Magley, President and CEO of Mara’s. Currently a Mara’s Bakery exists in Morristown and a Mara’s Café is located in Denville. This is the first venture of its kind for Mark and Marci, Mark works on Wall Street and Marci has been in the hospitality business for 26 years. “There’s a lot of firsts with this,” Marci Semel said. “There are a lot of learning curves.” For Mara’s, this is the first location …

Fanwood holds official opening of Fanwood Crossing

Mayor thanks all those who made Fanwood Crossing possible

On Tuesday morning, Mayor Colleen Mahr of Fanwood, held an official opening of the mixed use development known as Fanwood Crossing. The first level of the development is allocated as retail space, while the top three floors are luxury apartments. Mahr recalled how just over a year ago she remembers breaking ground on Fanwood Crossing. The building was said to be done by the summer of 2012 and was completed on schedule. Standing at the podium with Mahr was developer, Dave Checchio, from Elite Properties. Mahr noted how thankful Fanwood is to have good solid developers and how the town is fortunate that people are dedicated to the prosperity of Fanwood. Checchio said the morning's events were a little bit like celebrating a win in the third…

What Do You Think of Downtown Fanwood's New Look?

The new Victorian architecture at Fanwood Crossing has now been painted beige and white. What do you think of the new look? Vote in the poll below.

In just three short months, the construction at Fanwood Crossing will be complete and new Fanwoodians can begin to occupy the 24 apartments and 8,800 square feet of retail space below. Recently, construction crews have added beige siding and white trim to the large turrets and walls. Mayor Collee Mahr and Developer David Checchio each stated that the construction and design of Fanwood Crossing should echo Fanwood’s historic roots; most notably the Victorian architecture of the Fanwood train station. However, the beige color scheme that now dominates downtown Fanwood is quite different from the dark teal, maroon, and chocolate brown coloring that is found on other redeveloped South Avenue businesses such as Enchantments or Seng Couture. …

Hello

4:55 pm on Saturday, March 31, 2012

I was surprised to see this apartment building being built in Fanwood. Fanwood is or used to be a small quaint upper middle class borough of single family homes with garages, yards and quality schools, where everyone knew everyone else or at least everyone's business. Studies have shown that when there is density in the suburbs there is a slum. Look at the suburban areas where there is high …   more ›
