John Paladino the pastor of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Parish in Scotch Plains said the choice of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, of Argentina to choose the name Pope Francis was “profound” given the man St. Francis was known to be. After 8 years of service, the Vatican announced early Monday that Pope Benedict XVI would resign at the end of the month. Rev. John J. Paladino, Pastor of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains said this is just a sign of how humble and selfless the Pope is. “He sincerely believes that this is for the good of the Church. The honor of Knight or Dame is bestowed upon individuals who have contributed to the life of the parish community with extraordinary gifts of time, talent, and treasure.
