Where I Live: Garfield, N.J.
-
Birthday: Jan. 5
- Bio: Jen can't really remember a time when she wasn't involved in journalism. It started with covering high school sports for the local weekly newspaper in Trumbull, Conn. when she was a teenager. She earned her B.A. in print journalism at American University in Washington, D.C. before heading back home to Trumbull to serve as the editor of the same weekly newspaper she wrote for in high school. She also has a M.S. in journalism from Quinnipiac University. She spent seven years covering Westport, Conn. for The Hour and WestportNow.com as both a reporter and editor. From there, she headed to New Jersey to work for The Record and Herald News as a senior Web producer. Jen's not all about the journalism, though. She's also an avid sports fan, rooting for the New York Mets and New York Rangers. You can follow her on Twitter. Find Millburn-Short Hills Patch on Facebook.
Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.
Politics
Complicated. If you want to learn more about them, feel free to ask.
Religion
* How religious would you say you are? Casual, observant, devout, non-religious?
I tend to keep my religious views private, but I'm willing to talk about them if asked.
Local Hot Button Issues
* What do you think are the two or three most important issues facing the community?
Taxes and downtown issues such as parking and redevelopment
* Where do you stand on each of these issues?
I don't really have an opinion.

Raw sewage is overflowing at Ridgewood and locust.
4 Manhole covers spouting raw sewage all over the neighborhood. Sewage is flooding into several basements in the neighborhood.
This is disgusting. It happens every Nor'easter and the town has never even tried to correct the problem.

Would you please call me at 973-467-3313. I want to improve my listings/announcements of the World War 2 Book Club and I need your help. If you call and I am not home, leave your telephone # and best time to call. Thanks.

Happy Birthday, Jen!
"Some of the new speed humps aren't painted yet. Like the one on Hobart that scared me when I drove over it."
Funny. On the way to the train this morning I basically missed its presence and went over it too fast. My wife yelled at me, "how can you miss something like that".
I feel better now.
Thanks, Jen! Westport misses you.
