  • Birthday: August 23
  • Bio: Lindsay has lived a little bit of everywhere, but mostly grew up in North Augusta, S.C., a small town along the Savannah River best known for its proximity to the Master's Golf Tournament and soul singer James Brown's birthplace. She got her journalism degree from the University of Missouri, and moved to Rhode Island after graduation for a stint in AmeriCorps and at NPR. Her journalism career goes back to childhood, when she memorized newspaper articles and read them behind the kitchen table like a TV anchor. She quickly moved on to reporting her own stories, and has done work for The Augusta Chronicle, Tampa Tribune, Columbia Missourian, RI Public Radio and My02818.com. Her spare time consists of taking small road trips, eating lots of Mexican food and scoping out good vintage finds.

Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.

This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.

Politics

* How would you describe your political beliefs?

I can lean either way, depending on the issue. I try my best to be informed on both sides of the argument before making a judgment.

Religion

* How religious would you say you are? Casual, observant, devout, non-religious?

I was raised mostly in the Methodist church, but I don't attend regularly anymore.

Local Hot Button Issues

* What do you think are the two or three most important issues facing the community?

Development, Shared Services

* Where do you stand on each of these issues?

I think growth can certainly be good for the future of Scotch Plains and Fanwood, but it has to be done wisely and be welcomed by those whom it affects.

Thanks Lindsay! And it's stories like these (http://bit.ly/9yYxGo) that are helping with my post-launch recovery. :)
