Banned Book Discussion

Banned
Books Week, a week designated to celebrate everyone’s right to read and to
access information, is September 22-28. On Wednesday, September 25 at 6:30pm,
the library will host a discussion of Th1rteen
R3asons Why
by Jay Asher.

The
novel follows Clay, a high school student, as he listens to cassette tapes left
behind by a classmate who has committed suicide, recounting the events that led
to her death.

In
2008, it was named to the Best Books for Young Adults list by the Young Adult
Library Services Association. After stirring up much emotion and controversy,
it was the third most challenged book in 2012, according the American Library
Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom.
