Extra NJ Transit Train Service for Thanksgiving Weekend

Children under 12 can ride for free through the four-day weekend, if accompanied by a fare-paying adult.

NJ Transit is offering extended service over Thanksgiving weekend, including “early getaway” rail and bus service on Wednesday, Nov. 25, for commuters leaving work early and to provide additional capacity for those traveling to Newark Airport.

On Thanksgiving Day, extra trains and buses will be added to the schedule in the late morning hours for those traveling to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. 

On Friday, Nov. 27, enhanced bus service will be offered to shopping centers throughout New Jersey, and additional trains will operate to and from New York for Black Friday shoppers.

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, trains will operate on a weekday schedule with additional service from New York Penn Station, Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal starting at 1 p.m. on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines. 
 
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule. To accommodate those traveling to and from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, extra trains will be added on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex and Port Jervis lines. Holiday bus schedules vary by route—customers are advised to check timetables or visit njtransit.com for schedule information. 
 
On Friday, Nov. 27, trains will operate on a weekday schedule on all rail lines with additional New York-bound trains between 10 a.m. and noon on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Morris & Essex lines. Customers are encouraged to travel early, if possible, to take advantage of regular peak-period service during the rush hour. Holiday bus schedules vary by route—customers are advised to check timetables or visit njtransit.com for schedule information.

For the Thanksgiving holiday, NJ Transit's Family Super Saver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Monday. In addition, discounted off-peak roundtrip tickets will be valid anytime during this period.
