Snow Storm Continues to Worsen in Scotch Plains-Fanwood

The storm warning is now scheduled through 6 a.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service has extended the winter storm warning for Scotch Plains-Fanwood through 6 a.m. Saturday now. 

Union Catholic High School has announced that classes will be canceled on Friday. As of 8:30 p.m., no word had been released on whether Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools would be open.

The heavy, wet, slushy snow continues to complicate travel in our area. It also has the potential to bring down tree limbs and power lines. The latest report from the National Weather Service predicts our area will see between 15 to 20 inches of snow before the storm is over.

The Scotch Plains Public Library closed at 4 p.m. Thursday due to the inclement weather. All SP-F schools shut down around noon.

The Board of Education's regular meeting for Thursday was also canceled and scheduled for next Thursday, March 4.

SP-F High Girls Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball games vs. Elizabeth were all canceled for Thursday afternoon. The boys varsity wrestling tournament, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, has been turned into a Saturday-only event.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood residents were largely still out and about at midday Thursday, making last minute grocery trips to the A&P, walking their dogs and picking their children up from school.
