Fanwood Police Reports: March 28 to April 5

Recent police activity in the borough.

Fanwood police arrested three people last weekend for drug possession after a routine motor vehicle stop.

During the stop, which took place at 11:52 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the intersection of South Avenue and Fourth Street, a Fanwood officer discovered the smell of burning marijuana in the vehicle. A passenger in the rear of the vehicle had a small bud of marijuana the size of a marble sitting on his shirt, and when the officer asked him to keep his hands on the back of the driver seat, he failed to do so and put the bud in his mouth and tried to swallow it.

Once backup arrived for the officer, they took the individuals out of the car and notified Union County's canine unit to bring a drug dog. The dog located a clear baggy containing a white rocky substance thought to be rock cocaine, and in addition discovered additional marijuana in the car. All three people in the car were arrested.
