FW Police Reports: Thieves Take GPS Systems Out of Vehicles

Fanwood police activity from Sept. 10 to 17.

GPS systems continue to be a popular target for local thieves.

This past week, Fanwood police received two reports of car thefts in which an unknown person broke into a vehicle to steal the mapping devices.

Sometime on Sunday, Sept. 13, someone broke the side window of a vehicle parked at a residence on the 100 block of Laurel Place and removed a GPS unit and radar detector, both valued at $250 each.

Then sometime between 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, and 8 a.m. Sept. 16,  someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 100 block of South Avenue and stole a GPS unit and car radio, valued in total at $300.

Both Fanwood and Scotch Plains police received similar reports throughout the summer. The departments encourage residents to keep their doors locked and remove any valuable items from view.

Below is the rest of the Fanwood police activity from the past week.

Thursday, Sept. 10:

  • Yvonne M. Sawyer, 51, of Allentown, Penn., was arrested on outstanding Phillipsburg, Scotch Plains and Watchung warrants. Sawyer was stopped for a motor vehicle violation at 2:44 p.m. at the intersection of Terrill Road and Midway Avenue when the officer discovered the warrants. She was processed, posted bail and was released.
  • Eduardo Delgadillo, 25, of North Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding Fanwood warrant after a field investigation. After various record checks, officers also discovered that he was wanted by immigration officials. He was turned over to INS.
  • Christopher G. Vades was arrested at 6:15 p.m. on Martine Avenue for an outstanding Clark warrant. He posted bail and was released.

Saturday, Sept. 12:

  • Nikiya E. Johnson, 27, of East Orange, was arrested at 9:03 a.m. for an outstanding Newark warrant. Johnson was stopped for a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of Terrill Road and Midway Avenue when the officer discovered the warrant. She posted bail and was released.

Tuesday, Sept. 15:

  • Jason A. Novello, 30, of Rahway, was arrested on an outstanding Mountainside warrant. Novello was stopped at 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of North Avenue and Tillotson Road when the officer discovered the warrant. He posted bail and was released. 
  • Stephanie A. Kendall, 30, of Fanwood, was arrested on an outstanding Plainfield warrant. Officers discovered Kendall's warrant at 9:56 p.m. after a field investigation at the intersection of Midway Avenue and Tower Place. She posted bail and was released.

Wednesday, Sept. 16:

  • Anthony Carter, 43, of Westfield, was arrested on an outstanding Mount Laurel warrant. Carter was stopped at 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Martine and Portland avenues when the officer discovered the warrant. He posted bail and was released.
