NJ.com: Search Still On for Union County Inmate

The inmate escaped from Union County Jail just after midnight Monday.

Union County police are still on the hunt for an inmate who escaped from the Union County Jail just after midnight on Monday.

Philip Ruddy, 21, of Rahway, escaped while throwing out garbage as part of his required duties at the complex. Officers chased Ruddy, but lost him as he ran north in the direction of the Elizabeth train station and amid the buildings, alleys and parking lots.

Authorities have notified local and state police departments to look for him.
