Scotch Plains Police Reports: April 12 to 18

Police activity from the past week.

Scotch Plains police are investigating two incidents of suspicious vehicle damage from this past weekend.

The first incident occurred on Friday, April 16, when the owner of a Forest Road business reported being a victim of criminal mischief. The man told police that an unknown suspect slashed the tires of his truck, which was parked on his property. The three tires were valued at $150 each.

The second incident occurred on Morse Avenue. A resident there reported to police that an unknown suspect threw two logs through the front window of his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. The window was valued at $300.

Below are the rest of the recent police reports for Scotch Plains.

Monday, April 12:

  • A resident of Nicholl Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. The man told police that an unknown suspect used his credit card without his authorization to make purchase $838 in airline tickets.

Wednesday, April 14:

  • The owner of a Park Avenue business reported being a victim of criminal mischief. The man stated that an unknown suspect damaged the sign from the front of his store. The sign is worth approximately $200.
  • William James, 48, of Plainfield, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Police stopped James for a motor vehicle violation when they smelled the odor of alcohol. After failing numerous sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest. James was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Aaron Jackson, 18, and Dustin Jenkins, 20, both of Plainfield, were arrested for possession of marijuana. Police stopped their vehicle for a motor vehicle violation when they smelled the odor of the drug. After further investigation, the officer discovered the marijuana in the vehicle. The two men were transported to police headquarters, where they were processed and released.

Thursday, April 15,

  • Linda McNamara, 58, of Scotch Plains, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Police stopped her for a motor vehicle violation when they smelled the odor of alcohol. After failing numerous sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest. McNamara was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Sunday, April 18:

  • Nicole Hills-Sylvester, 20, of Berkeley Heights, was arrested for possession of marijuana. Police stopped Hills-Sylvester for a motor vehicle violation when they smelled the odor of marijuana. After further investigation, the officer found the drug in the vehicle. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • A patron at a Route 22 restaurant reported being a victim of assault. The woman told police that she met an individual at a concert in New York City and that she asked him for a ride home. She didn't want him going to her house, so she asked to be dropped off at the restaurant, where he assaulted her in the parking lot as she tried to leave. The suspect left the scene prior to police arriving.
  • Kenneth Jackson, 47, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Police stopped Jackson for a motor vehicle violation when they discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
